making siloettes in to floaters

hey guys im only 15 and i do a lot of goose and duck hunting i do not have the money to buy goose decoys i was wondering if there was a way to make a silohette in to a floater without v board thanks in advanced

What is wrong with Y or V boards? They are your best bet.

You could probably make a foam base with a keel of some sort on the bottom. Then hook the sillo to it. Y boards seem like a good option though.

yah i do not have a problem with them but im am more of a duck hunter and i would rather just have a dozen goose decoys and big rig of divers and a few puddle ducks and when i use v boards i like having singles mixed in with them but if im useing just singles they arnt bad looking

if you use just v boards they look unnatural sortof so if you mix singles in with them then they look great but just a rig of singles looks good to and doesnt weigh as much and easier for just a few people instead of v boards and singles

They only look unnatural to you
Ducks will land in them and not care how it looks to a human.

V and Y boards give a view from different angles that you don't get with normal silos.

on rivers and creeks on the cheaspeake bay my dad has big rigs for geese and ducks and my g dad is a hunting guide he uses v boards he had like 12 dozen goose decoys and a load of duck decoys it is crazy bu it sure does draw them

What if you made a base out of PVC and attached the silo in the middle of that?

Run some kind of weight under it. Maybe suspend a decoy weight in the middle on a string. Just tossing out ideas. May end up trying it myself just to see if it would work.

yah i could do that but i was thinking cut the silo out then cut a slit threw the middle of it and put a peice of plywood in the slit so it would float

I dont know if plywood would be enough to float it. Might be wrong but I dont think it will have enough lift without being a pretty good size platform. Maybe if you got a foam board and put it under the plywood for added lift?

i have made on and it seemed to float but idk if it would in rough water and tide but i could put foam under the plywood if it needed it

I wouldnt even try this. I totaled it up and with my quick plans it would cost about $17.50 in just the PVC. You can get floaters for $15 or less.

I think it will too. You will just have to be sure and get it sealed up good and it may take a few screw ups to get the balance right.

Try making one or two and see if it floats the way you want. Sounds like you have an idea of what you want it to be.

Do you have access to old crab pot buoys? You can make some good looking floaters from those.
