Yea. Our pit is much larger but doesn't have a big hole to hide. It is nice having a flat half top to get out of the rain, and keeping anything you leave in blind dry.

I also hate anything you have to move before shooting. We just stand up through our holes and shoot.

Looks headed and turning color, so this non farmer is guessing he might be one of the lucky ones ready for the extra early goose start set by the same geniuses who moved his duck opener back to accommodate harvest.

historically that is when things start to get right for us---if we have early success it is usually caused by some abnormality like the 2 big early fronts in what was that? 2014 OR super dry conditions North of us
I take it slow with making the blind---lots of ant poison---grass,let settle---grass more,let settle---re-evaluate,grass more---all the while making what feels like 10,000 trips down the levee filling holes,making walking easy for Dad
I have not tackled decoys yet---guns are cleaned---calls I constantly mess with
EVERY year I have to re-adjust---it never sounds the same in the field as in my house
Your thoughts on being in east zone?

Being too damn lazy to fill a hole that could spoil someone's trip (much less make the blind blend into its levee) is an ongoing peeve of mine with our ghetto guide staff.

Spoons are the most difficult puddle duck to decoy where I hunt. We see a bunch but they get localized very quickly and have messed up working mallards and gadwalls by zooming by the blind only to take the working birds with them. I kill them for revenge and they are very pretty late in the year.

Those ducks were shot by someone else. Sort of swore a little oath to not post pics of stuff I killed anymore.

I've had my best luck with localized spoons either by whistling like a pile of greenwings or kacking my arse off, as if they were stubborn teal. But this year I'm going to try the double clucks that so many recordings seem to indicate they do the most of.
