Don't push your luck. We're lucky he's paying the bills for the website.
I sure appreciate it. Banned from everywhere else. ;)

Marsh Bear, the way it works is you'll get your own subforum to start as many different threads about your season as you want and so that the logs stay really organized for future members/readers to sort through. Welcome to WFF and enjoy!

Did you see where Eric "Big Mike" Haynes came in here and made a post?
He's a duck-dick spy working for the Russians I heard.

I'll be lucky to kill a few.(any) It's east-central Illinois. May as well be west Tennessee. It's THAT bad.
You have no clue how hard I have to work to shoot a duck up here.To get on the flyway requires an hour and a half drive.
You ever hear anyone say, "I would not drive more than 12 miles to kill a duck?". That's not me.
You're safe.

WTF will these Illinois chuckleheads think of next?

Note the "North duck zone/Central Goose zone".
It's getting more confusing every year. How much money do I gotta donate to who so they'll make Clinton Lake a NORTH/CENTRAL/SOUTH CENTRAL/SOUTH zone? It'd be excellent to have a 100-day season. :fishing:

Don't forget that is only for regular duck and goose seasons. For the youth, it's central zone for both. Illinois is thoroughly and openly corrupt. It is ridiculous. Yep, it is the rich connected guys that hunt flooded fields. They want the extra week early to hunt ducks in their fields before they flood and to be able to hunt geese in their unflooded fields until the end of January. And that's what they got.

Image

It's been that way for a few years now. Really fucked a lot guys that I know that hunt the rivers in that area. The end of the season is when they kill the hell out of them, but it's a cold icy deal. They lost their best week by far. I'll stick to frozen land at that time since I don't have a boat that I would feel safe.

Marsh Bear wrote:It is August 14 - one month and 1 day until teal season

Early goose is what gets me going this time of year. Most years you all kill more teal in a day than I see the entire early teal season. A BWT would be a trophy bird for me. Never got one, although I've blown a few chances, but thus far haven't fired a shot at one. I always throw out my hen mallard decoys and set up my spinners just in case. I had one feet down over the decoys at about 20 yards, while on the phone with my Dad  We saw each other at the same moment, needless to say he turned and burned quicker than I could put down the phone and pick up the gun. If it were a greater Canada, I could have put down the phone, ate lunch, loaded my gun, and still have time to take the shot. The teal are just a tad quicker. ;)

I'm seeing a lot more geese than normal for mid August. It's typical feast or famine where I hunt. We have a huge number of resident geese, but they tend to leave either for a molt migration or take their fledglings and go to big water. If they return in good numbers before the end of the season, we have great hunting. Rarely, but some years, like this one seems to be, we have a decent number that don't leave, and we have mediocre hunting, which is better than most zeros where we don't see a bird until almost overnight they reappear which may not be until the season is over.

Our head waterfowl biologist has found gauging popular consensus on Zones and dates a steaming hot mess - that is only going to bow to the whims of appointed commissioners, anyway.

And never mind what the available science might suggest.

Wrote letters every season begging for a split but since I don't have a huge donation tied to my request it gets ignored.
You know one year when it gets really bad and hardly any licenses get sold they'll quickly go back to a 40-day season maybe even 30.

Less zones and a split season seems like the ideal compromise. That and no Wednesday waterfowl hunting. You could have a Saturday to the following Sunday 8-hunting days early season with two weekends of hunting at the beginning of October and then a two month season that goes from the middle of November until the middle of January up north. Shift it a little for down south.

Why Wednesday's off? They don't count toward your 60 days, just like states that don't hunt on Sunday. This is essentially the PA duck season where I'm from, except no Sundays are closed and not Wednesdays. Too bad there are no ducks or geese there any more.

Simply closing hunting on Wednesday would add over a week.

Boy we are really screwing up MB's log

Shhh..."a watched pot" and all that. Don't know when I'll see the marsh again, do know my afternoon plans include boat maintenance, so that won't be a holdup.
