Birds - Scratch

We shut down at 8:15 and picked up the remaining decoys. We had taken most out after yesterdays hunt. I had a bittersweet moment as I was driving off from the blind, looking back, watching it disappear in the fog as I entered the ditch. We'll be back in September with the great bunch of guys we hunt with to do it all over again.

Now begins the spring and summer activities at the camp, and in da marsh. Blake and I may be back out there next weekend to chase some reds.

Thanks for taking us along, Dave. Will be looking forward to seeing how you handle the boat hide next go 'round.

Man-O-Man, even if the ducks aren't flying, your belly sure smiles a lot down there Good stuff Dave, and Thanks for sharing your season with us!!!!!!!

Regular season - 174 ducks on 25 hunts (3 scratch hunts recorded) 6.9 ducks per hunt average------ Teal Season 21

The four blinds combined on our place took just over 700 this year. I don't remember the exact total.

Hopefully the plans we have to better hide the blind (blend in) will give us more chances at what was seen out there this year. We watched a lot of birds push off the blind, and it got worse as the season progressed. The ease that this set up offers has spoiled me, so I want to make it work. BUT! I don't know if I can take too much more of this helpless, frustrated feeling I get watching those birds flare, time and time again.

That is a helpless feeling when there is nothing more you can do. Hopefully you can come up with something. Thanks for sharing your log!

IT'S OVER!....

Yep, finally ended here yesterday as well...............hard to stop thinking like I've got another duck hunt to plan for this weekend.............now on to Snipe...........then green trouts over the grass!

I was glad to see it end, too. Usually I have mixed feelings; not this year. I've clearly reached some tipping point (probably a combination of age and obesity), that made this season very difficult for me.

But I wanted to say thanks very much, Dave, for sharing your hunts here. I wrote a long, whiny paragraph on Rick's log that I'll spare you, but I appreciate the information and perspective I get from learning about your, and others', hunts. I could really relate to some of your comments about killing a few birds, but seeing big groups of teal riding out. I had a couple of hunts where my neighbors calling it quits at 9:00 AM and flushing a big group of teal on the boat-ride out of the marsh turned my morning from a 1-bird outing to a near limit.

I wanted to add the 7 GW we took for teal season. I overlooked those little gems.
