Finally had a friend who was a co-op's weed expert spell out hemp sesbania for me, so I could find a pic of the big seed pods on what's generally just called "indigo" here:

And, "in other news," heard my first likely reliable teal report from a fellow who should know what he saw this morning. Ten or twelve flying flooded stubble (across from Shot's/LeCroix/Crown/Zealous Oil's camp on the way to Cherry Ridge and Oak Island, Dave and Darren). Had thought it a likely candidate for early birds every time I passed it on last week's egg excursions, and am not too surprised. Will probably find myself making a pass that way, just in case, sometime today...

Sure can't kill them what get banged at every turn here and haul ass to points elsewhere.

Good deal! See my update on "flyway moisture" for this week, no surprise there may be some early pushes.

Hope that doesn't work out like last year...

I find it much too thin for decent cover by itself, but it makes a fine frame to hang thicker grasses on:

We got away with laying in indigos alone in the sparse shot above because the birds were married to the once-plowed and sheet-water flooded area in the background.

Had a lot of fun there, albeit mostly from a pit, that year:
