Here is the crappie rig I was going to tell you about on FB. 1/4 oz egg weight with a small split shot with a jig or bait hook. It works better if the weight is closer to the hook. If you get hung you just lower your rod tip so the weight is hanging below the snagged hook. Then you pop your rod tip real fast, down then up, and the weight pulls the hook out. I usually just work the rod up and down lightly at first with the weight lowered and it will work it out. The guide that showed me this pops his rod but I don't always get the timing right. His egg weight will be flattened out from hitting the split shot so many times.

Badass. I'll give this a try when I get home. Pretty sweet setup.

If it's not coming out it's usually because the weight is on the other side of the limb, if that makes sense. That's why it is better if the weight is closer to the hook so it all stays in the same side of the snag.

Also works great to bump around in the brush to feel for limbs and get the fish's attention.

Crappie fishing sounds like an absolute blast. All I get into are northern pike and those horrible tasting walleye.

It is when they're fighting good. Sometimes you're just pulling them in, others it's on like donkey kong jack.

I enjoy it, not a whole lot of sitting around doing nothing. Find a pile and pick it apart, either nail a few fish or pick up and hit the next spot.

There are tons of fish in ND. I spent the majority of my time fishing there rather than hunting

Not another walleye lover. Marginal at best.

Walleye, perch, crappie, northern, etc are all the same fish. Mild, bland and boring overall. They are great for people who don't like fish.

Wouldn't eat bass, but they are in the same class. Boring. I prefer tuna, salmon, etc

I'll eat smoked steelhead. But that's about as far as I'll go into the red/pink meat fish.

I'll put down just about any kind of panfish though.
