Can you pull the kill switch? Or is that a part of the same circuit as turning key off?

Was a boogered "diode"/wire? at the ignition coil, so it was just my messing with that wire inside the cowling, rather than grounding it, that was actually killing the engine. Better now - I hope...

The longtail that left me stranded last week only had a bad connection going to kill switch and would not let it start. Darn electricals....

Have concluded that anytime I have to hose out my hip boots, I've had entirely too much fun.

Was Retriever Appreciation Day (aka: fourchette pulling day) at the mudhole, and I broke through the flotant enough times to get really sick of climbing back up onto it and dumping hippers. But pulling what I can has put a serious dent in their annual regrowth, and a single day was all it took this time.


Flotant sucks, and my dog's job sucks.

Oh! Saw a grand total of one lone little wood duck until I took a ride near Cherry Ridge where the guys had seen a few poule d'eaus and jacks. Were, indeed, around a dozen poule d'eau on our boundary pond and maybe 30 jacks flushed off CR when I made my turn.

Do you take marsh on these work trips?

Lord no. Would either have to keep him in the boat or watch him constantly to keep him away from water that might hold what's made some pretty serious trails across the flotant. Don't know where our water temps are, but doubt they're low enough yet to be trustworthy.

The bug's restricted to ag land ventures where I've somehow been roped into helping ready blinds I may well never hunt.

Ducks moved in yesterday. High flights mallards and pintails from north from noon to dark

Still no blues yet

i was surprised at our water temp the last few times in our marsh, way cooler than I ever would have expected.

Have to be in the low 60s before the bug gets to swim. Hoping this front does the trick for a while.

Looking forward to being in the marsh Saturday morning with the nephews.

Wish we could. I passed on taking a fellow I know and PPG's plant mgr for specks in the hope Doug will ask me to take his great-grandson again, and I can slip a grandson of my own in with him.

Was saved from some of the mess that was supposed to be a gubernatorial debate by a call from a friend with a camp in Arkansas some 25-30 miles from where our guy JohnC was. Didn't hunt long enough to approach John's score, but had three days of easy speck limits for up to 10 guns "...but the ducks...never saw so many ducks there...thousands and thousands of pintails."

Didn't text me anything of ducks, but did text video of flying specks and a pile of dead ones in numbers I've not seen in the flesh "since don't know when". Their "good ol' days" for specks are now.

Said we need to get ready, and I hope he's right. Certainly "ducky" out right now.

I stood outside this morning at the crack of dawn for a bit staring at the sky wanting so muck to hear or see some fowl. This weather is awesome! We'll be in the marsh Saturday morning getting things ready for the big show.

The carrying capacity of eastern Arkansas is unreal. So much habitat.

Give me this front's timing any morning after the east zone is open and I'll be driving 100mph north to Avoyelles parish. Sooo wonderful out this morning

Did, in fact, hear geese over our little burg when airing the bug in the dark for the first time this morning. Also took him to the country around LST intending to hike back to one of our blinds and play with some birds, but a t-shirt and hoody weren't enough for the weather at hand once out in the open field. Got about halfway in when I heard a distant bunch, stepped off the farm road, knelt and called them across and back - and said "enough". Being a lot younger and tougher, the bug wasn't ready to quit and tore up the countryside on the way back to the truck. Even cut a rut around the farmer's camp where we'd parked before reluctantly hoping in his box. Poor dog wants work.

I've been swimming and working Ellie every day and this weather makes her as frisky as a pup. The old girl is ready as well. Last year with the blind work in October and other distractions and excuses, I didn't exercise her at all prior to opening weekend and she was sore on the evening of opening day. Not this year.

She's not a puppy, anymore, and we old folks gotta "use it or lose it". Hence this morning's hike in, rather than pulling a 4-wheeler out of the barn.

But it's a looooong haul to our farthest blind on that farm, so I taught the bug to ride on a 4-wheeler yesterday morning. Having long made a point of keeping him well clear of them, it was quite the circus and a pretty fair wrestling match to get him to stop on the back rack, instead of jumping clear over the bike.

Bet that was entertaining to watch. Harry always liked riding the fourwheeler, but likes the bed of the SxS even better....just wishes he'd ride shotgun instead.

My girl Moon loves the bike but hates the boat. Might be the noisy mudmotor not sure why but she is a nervous wreck in the boat until the motor is turned off. Then she gets real excited as the decoys are put out.

Since were sharing dog stories.... me being paranoid with my first pup and not wanting to screw anything up I introduced him to everything I could think of when he was young. Most all new things had treats involved , plus it was entertaining to watch him sniff out little bits hidden around my boat and pirogue.
The liking of 4 wheelers came easy I believe as he associated it with long marks when the trainers assistant would use it to crest some distance. He will me on the rack before it’s unloaded if you let him. Same with boat,

Side note: RIP pirogue pictured above as the sharp edges wore the tie downs enough to breaking point just as I get up to speed on I-10.. the big rig behind me made sure it wasn’t salvageable ..
