Modified a wood duck pattern last night. Looks rough now but I cut the body and head out on the bandsaw tonight. Decided to go hollow cedar for durability.

Very very cool, I was wondering how you would pattern it out and if a wood duck would be the closest you could get. Will be following along.

Great start but, a mandarin is gonna look strange on my diver longlines though.
Maybe I'll have someone make a black and white rain slicker for him to wear when he visits Oregon.

You won't need to. I'll get the decoy before you and rattle can it for us.

Just being curious, what is the process from here? Just start whittling a bit at a time?

You just cut out anything that isn't a duck.

Never sold any. Either gave them as gifts or donated to various banquets. If you're looking to buy though I'm always willing to take money.

What will happen with the deek after the traveling is through? I'm asking because in most the deeks i've been involved with, they would raffle them off to participants.....except that place which is not to be mentioned here.
If Jgun is up to it, letting it go to someone else, I like the idea of a shot at getting the deek after it is all over.

Wow I was just wondering about this today. You can already see the Mandarin coming out, depending on what you decide to do with this one I may have you carve me a replica.

On another note I bought us a nice hard back book to travel with the decoy to long everyone's hunts.

Deke is looking good. A flash drive is also good to send along. I have many, would be willing to provide it, was very cool seeing pics from everywhere a decoy had been.

That's not a bad idea, I'll include one and who ever as it last can mail it back to me and I'll post them up.

Sent from your honey hole.

White cedar. I prefer to carve tan cork and use cedar for the heads. I wanted this to be very durable so I carved it out of the cedar and hollowed it out to reduce weight. I'll give it a coat of epoxy to make sure it will handle the bashing I'm sure you guys will give it. BTW, I make working style decoys so they don't have a ton of detail and the tails, wing tips and bills are more stout than a shelf rider.
The gray you see is epoxy to fill screw holes, cracks and mistakes.

The bottom.

To whomever has the decoy before me: could you send snacks?
