Hen Pintail

Finished up this bird the other night. Hollowed cedar painted in oils. Ive never so much as held a hen pintail. Hope it looks some what right

That looks good! If I ever make it down that way, I'd be curious to see how you make them.

Looks good. I try and stay away from hen puddlers, too hard to paint. Oh wait, somehow I volunteered to paint a mandarin.

Thanks guys. They arent easy to paint thats for sure. Im lacking in my painting so I dont mind the challenge, but I learned a lot on this bird thats for sure. I havent started the squaws yet. I have two buffies to knock out and then on to the squaws.
Assa Im sure I have enough scrap laying around if you ever want to try your hand at one.

Wow. Those top back feathers look amazing.
(I'm not saying the rest looks like junk, it looks really good, I'm just blown away by those back feathers)

No they do, I learned a bit about oil paint on my own as I moved onto the back feathers. I figured I'd leave it and make the next one better.

looks good! i always like decoys that are painted in oils.
you ever read grayson chesser's book? has a lot of details about painting with oils.
