Rick—— Cow Pen on the plant

Though we pick their eggs, I'm embarrassed and ashamed to admit Jude never let me close enough to hunting their place to have even heard of the cow pen. Please fill us in.

It’s about 75 yards north of lacassine refuge. Just west of where you enter the pool

Apparently there were a lot of mallards that held in the pool as you could hear hen after hen sounding off

This blind is lightly flooded set aside and geese just naturally go,you just hide .

The plant is still holding significant blues and some specks

We only killed 14 but the birds barely flew,however I was happy to get an opportunity to hunt “the fence”

Didn't know it had a name, but there have been geese bodied just west of the Pool road just about, if not, every afternoon we're worked mallards down there. Glad you got to sample it.

Had coffee this morning with a buddy who's hunted there and says it's a grit pile, which makes sense, given their long term usage of the spot. Also said it's "a big-assed blind" he had to stand on the seat of to shoot. Didn't ask if that last past was hyperbole.

A old grit pile too from what I understand. They imprinted obviously.

After you describing the blind I first thought I might’ve hunted this legendary cow pen. 2 years ago I got to go on a late season goose hunt. The pit was West of the main road and just north of refuge. We parked in a gas well site.. I don’t recall the pit being that large, but it could’ve been. Our guide, Zach , was pumped when the snows started working on their own without any calling efforts. I was excited but he seemed ecstatic.

Jude’s wife is my wife’s aunts sister... they didn’t have anyone in camp that weekend.
He’s a super nice guy,
I get to catch up with him on July 4th and thanksgiving
