Mottled number sticks out to me. Maybe the norm for you though

Believe it appreciably above our par, but the real surprise was how much many of them acted like migrant mallards. Which suggests there were more travelers than usual among them. But while the only banded one was, in fact, one of a pair flying with mallards, I was told it was banded "locally" by the father of the fellow who kept the band. Hope to learn where "locally" is if the son returns with him second split.

Fairly sure last year's mottled take was the mudhole's record by a large margin (only shot one the year prior to it) with 22, but we had so few other birds that I worked a lot harder at tripping the locals than I have yet this go-round.

But the biggest stand-out to me is how mallards and grays have swapped prominence on our straps.

Mighty discouraging to see shovellers not just more prominent than mallards in the above for the first time ever but so much so. Not to mention mallards running sixth in our bag, instead of their prior norm second - or some dry seasons: first.

Believe our previous mallard low was third in 2018-2019, when blue-wings took a first ever regular season first and our usual top birds, green-wings, were second.

Looks like Gadwalls shared some of that Mallard space on the strap too

Counted guns and ran our birds-per number. Came up with:

September Teal - 5.9 BPG

1st Split - 4.4 BPG

2nd Split - 2.5 BPG

Regular Season Combined Total - 3.3 BPG

If nothing else, the exercise left me looking forward to September...

Everyone is isolated. The risk is from my daughter.
Exposed at work she's a staffer in a covid ward.
So far nothing.
I think we all had it November 2019

Each chemo knocks her down a little harder. Longer recovery each go.
8 more. Won't be over til may.
