Improvement ideas for my duck boat

Thats a big boat! I am a little worried about using a big heater like that one because I dont want to catch my grass mats on fire. But I like it. I have seen those LED lights for sale, will be also looking at toller boat works.

And now, an important question: how does everyone make their coffee on board?

I don't see anything you need TK, maybe a little more camo for around the hull but really it looks good, if you do heaters I recommend something hard mounted that can't be knocked over

Yeah, I'd be a little nervous with all that grass hanging around a heater. Could you maybe zip tie panels of luaun on the inside? I'd run a heater or two if I had that on the inside, no problem, and it doesn't weigh hardly anything.

Not a bad idea. I was thinking I might zip tie some tarp pieces on the frame to make it less drafty but I like your heat shield idea.

Not to hijack, but I've thought about a trolling motor for my hybrid on occasion. It'd be nice for sneaking in the marsh, when I don't need the outboard to push me against the tide in the open water.

My question is, can I cut down the shaft? They're all way too tall for my boat, but I've never taken one apart.

im guessing if you had a welder you could cut the shaft down yourself and weld it back together, but you would need a welder

Motor guide or minn Kota are pretty similar for their 40-50 lb motors. If you just use it from time to time academy stowaway deep cycle batteries work fine.

Assa, nothing is in the shaft but wires. Pull the head off and cut from the top of the shaft. All that's left then is re-drilling the single hole for the bolt that holds the head from spinning. Very simple

It's all internal motor pushing the prop ad a circuit board in the head. Nothin but a shaft to connect the two brotha

No, it's not. It's just very thin, flexible plywood. But honestly, the pieces would probably last at LEAST two seasons. It's a solid glue core, so not a lot of pieces to delaminate, just the veneers. Really light, too.

Just my 2 cents TK is when you start adding stuff like that the boat get crowded quick and starts to get in the way. Simple open floor with plenty of room allows you to adapt to the situation and stay comfortable.

I agree, thats part of what I am after. Look at that decoy rack idea. Right now we barely have time to stand up with all of our decoy bags. And my boat is open. So I am looking at ways to get organized AND be more comfortable.

Ive seem blinds made with luan last 10+ years. Just put a few coats of wood preservative on it before using, then paint once its up

Basically anything that sticks up above the floor or seats of the boat. I can usually handle things in the boat it's when you start adding "friends" is when it gets hairy. My money has been best inserted in keeping a strong outboard going.

QUESTION: have any of you ever used a large reel to manage your jerk rig out of your boat? The way I see it, you could have it on a short pole, fling it out near the spread and tug on it from the blind. When its time to go you just reel it in....

If your that hellbent on not getting out of the boat I'd say this is where your trolling motor comes into play. Troll over drop your rig an move the boat back into position. You would need one hell of a stick to fling 3 decoys and a weight!

The jerk rig is meant to be simple TK, don't go and fuck it up with bells ans whistles.
