Transom savers?

Are they a good idea? I have read different opinions, any input would be appreciated.

You talking about the bar that goes between your motor and trailer?

I have one on my 14'er now that I have the 25 on there, don't always use it for short runs but use it more often than not. A good purchase I think.

I have a 40 on my 16 footer and I got one for this summer. Trailering it around without one last year made me nervous. Especially on the rough roads.

Mine is a 30 and I can see where it would be a good idea. Some people say they are no good. Its cheap insurance, I say.

The guy I bought my boat from never used one. There were some small cracks starting to form at the corner supports. A support was the first purchase I made for the boat. IMO a 60hp merc is a little too much weight to be bouncing around back there going down the highway.

I hunt at many different Arkansas WMA's. The one thing they all have in common is HORRIBLE access roads. Pot holes inside of pot holes. The bridges on the access road I use at Big Lake...HUGE holes where the bridge meets the road. Hard to describe other than you better use a transom-saver or you'll crack the back of your boat (at the corners) like I did.
I have a 9.9/15 hp Evinrude and it tore up the back of my boat. The roads are THAT bad. I was unprepared because my dad sold/gave me the boat just days before the season. (out of the blue)
I've heard that it's incredibly stupid to fuck around with a crazy man's head.

Depends on the road. The parish road between our camp and marsh had a "travel at your own risk" sign until it was finally resurfaced a couple years ago. Any road built on marsh is apt to suck, but that one has a marine diesel depot at its Intracoastal end, and twenty or thirty tank trucks a day take their toll.
