Ropes on your boat

Postby aunt betty » Sat Aug 03, 2013 6:57 pm

Anyone who boats much probably has one or two ropes tied on.
It is probably a good idea to make sure the rope tied to the bow is shorter than the boat.
WHY?
If it starts getting dragged it cant tangle in the prop unless you are using a bow mounted trolling motor. ;)
I've heard that it's incredibly stupid to fuck around with a crazy man's head.

I don't know how many times I've been amazed my bow rope hasn't been completely screwed around the prop.

Been my experience that a good motor and prop will trim the line for you.

No shit. I know a mudmotor will anyways. My 17 foot boat has about a 19' rope thanks to one of my buddies.

You sound like the voice of experience on ropes in props

And I contribute to mental health foundations. That is why you still exist.

I've got a 3.5 HP with a plastic prop. I fear a nasty tangle is all I would get

Maybe it's being in the CG but I've never even come close to having the problem of ropes in any of my outboards or MM. Just always make sure I heave them in or watch the slack line very carefully if I'm towing something.

there are no ropes on a boat, there are lines though. Bow lines. Stern lines. Even breast lines. But no ropes.

Absolutely not true. It's a rope when not in use and becomes a line when it's given a job.
