When: Saturday morning, 10-1-22 (opening day).

What: squirrel hunting.

Where: Maurepas swamp WMA, LA

Who: just me.

Weather: 52 degrees, clear skies with a 3 mph north wind.

Weapons: 20 gauge Stevens 311, full/modified with #6 lead.

What happened: Saw a total of 4 squirrels and only got 2. Nice morning in the swamp anyhow. Only heard a few woodies and didn’t jump any, which is abnormal. Might hunt near home tomorrow morning?

Wonder how hard they'd laugh if you hauled a garbage bin to the woods filled with peanuts.

Around here you cant hardly find one without squirrels..
Dumb Donald and his wife just leave theirs in the street 24-7- 365.
If I had an oldER pickup I'd ram it to oblivion and do it on trash day where you'd find trash on their rooftop.
These people just throw everything in the street and the city comes along and cleans it up.
I'd get a bill because white privilege.

When: Sunday morning, 10-2-22

What: squirrel hunting

Where: fence row between hayfields in Jarreau, LA.

Who: just me

Weather: 49 degrees, clear skies and calm winds.

Weapons: 20 gauge Stevens 311, full/modified with #6 lead.

What happened: 1 fox squirrel from my favorite big pecan tree in the fence row. Seen plenty song birds and seemed to be a perfect morning for squirrel hunting, just nobody informed the squirrels.

Nice outings to take advantage of the stellar weather. Was also glad for any bow hunters celebrating October 1st, seems too many recent ones were much too hot.

Yeah. October hit and poof like a lever had been pulled we have glorious fall weather. No frost yet so trees are still green.
Give it 2 weeks.

Couldn't ask for better weather here, with overnight lows around 60, and no rain in sight!!!!

When: Sunday morning, 10-30-22

What: squirrel hunting

Where: Maurepas swamp WMA, LA

Who: just me

Weather: 54 degrees, cloudy with light fog and no wind.

Weapon: 20 gauge H&R topper model 58 with full choke and lead #6

What happened: I ditched the waders and decided to hunt the high ground. Unable to sneak through the downed oak trees (thanks Ida) and palmettos, so I skirted the power line right of way and managed to get one fox squirrel this morning. I seen 5 but out of range and figured it would be fruitless trying to get through the aftermath of last year’s hurricane. I think I’m done hunting until the Louisiana east zone duck opening on the 19th. Hopefully the squirrels are more plentiful next year?

Tempted to shoot the city squirrels but they prolly taste like curry from digging in the Africans and Arabs trashcans.

Pre-seasoned squirrels. Good eating. Choot em!
