25 days until youth hunting weekend - I am more excited than the grandkids. The two older boys have been hunting with me for 6 years, but in addition I have 2 never before hunted grandsons. One of them is 14, he is the fisherman in the family, but wants to try his hand at duck hunting, the other new comer is 9.
The two older boys will hunt with one of the dads, he is not a veteran and will not be able to hunt. I will have the 9 year old on Saturday, Nov 5, he leaves Saturday afternoon because he has a football game on Sunday, Nov 6, he will be replaced by the 14 year old who plays in the high school band, and they play on Friday night and not able to make the Saturday hunt. All of which I think will work out for the best.
It will be a logistical nightmare to have all the different gear required. I provide everything, guns, ammo, snacks, drinks, hunting gear.
This will be the first time the older boys won't hunt with me - they are anxious to see how well they will do on their own.

That sounds just wonderful, glad for you to be able to share in it despite all the moving parts, wouldn't be the same without it. Not yet sure if my young crew will give it a go yet but for sure they'll come along on a few hunts this season toting a BB gun regardless.

Keep on counting down!

MB good on you. Enjoy it to the fullest! I have had several young guns come through my camp. That is what it's all about!

Nothing quite like lighting that fire inside of them MB, and the memories you will create will last a lifetime

Leaving tomorrow to go to the camp - work day on Saturday - put out decoys and brush blinds. The grass in the marsh is thick and plentiful, but not very tall. It will be a challenge to find grass tall enough to do a good job of brushing.

Saturday we brushed blinds and put out decoys, a week earlier than usual, but it looks like we will have at least 4 blinds hunting for youth weekend. We were able to find enough grass for brushing, but not the quality we normally have. I was very disappointed in the number of ducks I saw Saturday, it was only about 30 ducks all day.
Youth weekend looks to be warm, with no fronts coming this week it may be a very slow hunt for the boys.

Everybody and their three cousins will be out brushing, so birds should be moving.

Leaving about 3:30 for the camp with youth hunters for the weekend. Hoping the rain in southwest LA is over by 7:00 in the morning.

Had a call this morning from the father who'd booked me for his son tomorrow saying the boy was sick - but I'm guessing that rain may have had something to do with it.

Don't know about there, but rain sure stirs them here.

I no sooner had the opening than it was filled with a young vet from New Iberia.
