Eric's log book

Makes work a lot easier but I don't enjoy dusty duck seasons.
Kansas trip in early November in jeopardy if things don't change up that way. Refuge is bone dry right now, which is probably a good thing for late July.
I haven't been up to the farm since May but I hear the beans are pretty and green.
Went on a little day trip yesterday and stopped at the Parish waterfowl and coffee shop in Vicksburg. Neat little place.

Brad was working on some old PS Olts.

Amos enjoyed cooling off in Cole's Creek along the Natchez trace and the big muddy in Natchez.

Dinner under the hill at the magnolia grill, then we headed home.

The Brite side:
How does a drought end?
We could have another November where it rains every single day and just like that we complain about too much water.
In my cloud are pics of our last drought.
When it ended the storm killed my two favorite trees.
Lightning strikes.
Keep your chins up.

Riding up to Simmon's tomorrow, don't necessarily need anything but need to find some new wader pants or hunting pants as the ones I've had now are pretty baggy due to some hard earned weight loss.

Back when I switched from neoprene to so-called "breathable" waders, I made the mistake of buying heavy fleece wader pants that it's never been cold enough to comfortably wear. Also have a pair of heavy fleece long-johns to match. Would sure like to see the winter when they become "an investment".

I've used my fleece lined wader pants a lot up here in Jones, but we are generally 10-20 degrees colder than you every morning of duck season.

Didn't buy any pants today but tried on a few just to get a feel for fit and size.
Did get to meet Devin Singleton (Singleton game calls) and had a good visit at the call counter.
You can never have too many headlights

Lights for the pit

Going to try some Silo's this year.

They do have a lot of waders on sale, but I didn't need any (mostly banded and drake).
Taking our nephew Hunter to Mack's sake next Saturday. A lot of you guys have watched him grow up through the years on my hunting logs.

I've never heard the term butter foam before, but that's what it is.

Picked up 5 dozen pro grade speck silhouettes at Mack's fall festival yesterday along with a few other odds and ends I found on sale.
The fall festival used to be really big but it has downsized considerably since 2019 when I was there last. Still pretty good sales but not near as many vendors and activities going on outside the store.
From several folks I visited with, they say the Roger's waterfowl weekend is huge though.
Before leaving we did make it over to RNT and enjoy a cold one at the flying duck. I would make the drive just to hang out there for an hour or so even if I didn't step foot in Mack's.
Like Simmons, Mack's has added a large ladies casual clothing wing which helps a lot when you're lovely wife is with you.

GWT and Gadwall numbers are pretty surprising. GWT not supposed to be that volatile given their boreal and parklands breeding preference. Gadwall were down in ND survey vs. last year so I was hoping it was just a redistribution problem. Looks like that is not the case. Come on teal season! 6.5 million rice rockets heading our way.

Important to note this doesn't include this years production. So no surprise to me that most of the breeding adults numbers are down after 2 drought years in a row.

I assume they didn't include production numbers in 2015 and 16 either...

No, it's just the spring breeding population (adults), before the nesting season gets started.
