Thank you very much buddy...
I have some friends that are up here hunting public, and they are seeing (hearing) lots of birds in the corn, not a lot of killing...
I had a Stern talking to the dogs and told them this wasn't a high fence operation, that they need to get serious tomorrow, they just wagged their tails...

Not going to say how long I sat here trying to figure out what the heck Tennessee and Alabama were on game four of.

Pups' tails were wagging, 'cause they knew they were going to have a big time, birds or not.

Looks like Moe's trying awfully hard to ignore Trigger's snickering.

I’ve said it a bunch, “I don’t need to see a lot, just need to see enough.” Looks like 7 was enough!

I usually see more than that so I was surprised, the first three we laid eyes on, are in the picture...
Do you hunt public up here?

He's done taking pictures, I have had hard time getting a decent photo of those two, at least on this trip...

It’s been 20 years or so since I’ve been up there. I was just talking about hunting birds in general.

When I was taking this picture I said Moe look here, and he did...
IMG_20231102_154304867_HDR.jpg

Moe had hogged all the Prairie Grouse this year and I felt bad for Trigger so she was first up again today, she found two pretty quick at our first spot (these Labs never cease to amaze me how they can find a rooster that you shoot at 30 yd in 6' cattails)...
Drove around quite a while trying to find a spot for Moe, finally kicked him out in a WPA and all he did was run around (at least that's what I thought) might have even said "damn dog"...
We are finding a lot of standing corn bordering our hotspots lol...
Finally at 2:49 I pull into a WPA that I had killed birds on before, and decided to give Moe another chance at it... The crop next to it was beans and they had already been diced once, so my expectations were very low but maybe we can play with a hen... It's a small piece of property with water bordering all one side so we can you use that as a blocker, and diced field on the other... There are some trees by the field and we headed in that direction, at the trees Moe was birdy and pointed at least once but we didn't find anything... Shortly after the trees he gets birdy again in brome grass and does a really good job slowly moving while we push this bird to some really thick grass right before the cattails and I flush him out of the thick grass and kill him (Moe did a really good job on this bird)... I think the only problem with the "damn dog" is the damn owner chose the wrong piece of property...

Great to see you are having success! How has the weather been? I see there’s no snow on the ground there. Always like a little bit of snow so you can see those tracks gets the heart pumping a little faster!

Story on the gads? Targeting ducks in AM or byproduct of upland opportunity?

Legal shooting time is 10:00 a.m. for pheasants they were shot at 9:50... Kind of a long story to describe it correctly, and my internet service sucks... To be counted...

The bar / restaurant at the motel had five TVs playing when I went down to order my meal, and none of them had the LSU, Alabama game on...

Two Roosters, Four Gadwalls...
Moe found the Third Rooster, I mucked it up, he beat us (me)... Pulled the plug at 1:20 wanted to get back to council bluff this evening... I sure do keep gaining more and more confidence in my little boy Moe, the first two roosters were Triggers maybe that's why it stings so bad...

Thank you Buddy...

I'm a fair weather fan Rick, The first half was a good game that's what matters to me... If both have a chance it keeps me involved...

I forgot about this, yes mainly a byproduct, I jumped these gadwalls off a dugout (pond), the first day I was there and thought it was a fluke (have been burnt in this situation before)... But jump them again the next day, had lead both times... I decided the third day to go hunt them early and see what happens... They came in after legal but all in one bunch(13) but picked Trigger or I out, they tried to get in two different times but never finished...
So the fourth day we just decided to jump them and there was only two... The fifth day they were all there and we left with four... The licenses are separate so they don't run concurrent... Contacted a buddy to try and hunt Sunday or Monday but it didn't work out...
