I have a ruger no.1 in .338 win mag and just got a trade offer for a BAR 7mm mag stalker with BOSS.
Would this be a good trade if i'm mainly deer hunting with the rifle?

Depends on how far you're shooting. I have a few newer BAR's in different calibers, I don't trust them past 200ishyds with it b/c of auto accuracy issues.

If it was me, I'd trade just because of the availability of ammo. You can buy 7mm mag darn near anywhere.

I'd troll gunbroker and see which one has more value and then sell whichever one you end up with and buy something useful.

That would be reason enough for me right there.

I would not want a semi-automatic rifle for deer hunting. Get yourself a bolt 308 or -06.

7mm is awesome, you won't have to track em and they won't tear up much meat like that .338 does.

Just what I want to hear. A 7mm wouldn't be my first choice in caliber, nor would a semi-auto. but I have no use for a big .338 mag
and have been trying to sell/trade it off for a while now and this is the best trade offer i've got.

Try different sites as a mean to trade or sell, search fb groups for gun trading groups if you want a different gun. I hunt with a .300win most of the time but the ballisitics read better on a 7mm.

I would get rid of both of them for a proper deer caliber.

A .223 with a collapsible stock and suppressor is more than sufficient.

You should get a .22 Hornet then.

I saw that in a magazine while I was at the barber shop. Makes me wonder about getting such a small bullet going too fast though.

Why waste powder? Why not use a bb gun? Or perhaps a butter knife?

x2...I have a savage 7mm mag with the accutrigger. When you shoot a deer with a 7mm mag, they don't run, they just fold over. Downside to a 7mm mag is that they can kick like a mule if they don't have a muzzle brake on them. I am still trying to convince myself to have some work done to my 7mm mag to make it a long range gun. I have popped balloons the size of a dinner plate at 600 plus yards with a 7mm mag that was set up for it.

Well, the only deer I've ever killed was with a stick and string.

I have killed a big pile of them with a .270 and a 30 06
My cousin killed a monster buck with a 243
Black powder is coming up for me next. I will also kill one with a 44 mag some day.
95% of all the deer I have shot where under 50 yards. The rest where under 100 yards.
GKR there is no doubt your 7mm is plenty of gun for a wt deer.

Have you ever seen a .223 WSSM?

If it was legal in WA, I'd hunt with a .22-250
