Goose Hunting

Early season opened on 15 Aug. I got pretty sick right after we picked up Striker and finally felt good enough to get out today. Honker numbers have thinned out in my area. Found about 30 using a field and that was enough for us to get out.

Vincenzia and I were the shooters. Florentina, Rosangelia, Reaper and Striker joined us. Striker and the two non shooters hid in some cattails about 150 yards away.

First a single came in and I wiffed two easy shots but killed it with my last shot. Lots of thoughts of I can’t believe this is happening when I missed the first two shots. Very relieved to get it on the third.

Then we had two pairs coming at us but they slid off a little bit. They didn’t flare just kept on going. Then a group of about 15 did the same thing. They went to the south of us and then started coming back. Another group about 10 or so were coming right in cupped up just how they should but the ones coming back from the south made them start to turn and so I called the shot. Vincenzia got one with her first shot, and then her second shell didn’t go off. Just a little dent in the primer. I connected with my first shot and missed my second two shots. And that was that nothing else came, but we were very happy to get three.

Unfortunately, this morning, when Reaper came in the bedroom, he knocked over my shotgun that was on the charger for my shotcam. I usually lean it a different way so I blame myself. Something happened to the shotcam and it wouldn’t turn on.

Found a field with well over 100 when we did some after hunt scouting but I know the landowner won’t give us permission. We’re going to scout tonight and see if they’re flying over a field that I usually can get permission on and see if we can run traffic in the morning.

Don't believe I've ever seen a heavier brow on one.
