I read it as, there was not an opportunity to Upland hunt until now. Should he start to upland hunt?

I would like to know where he is in Nebraska (don't you fuckers say Westmont) that there is an upland population worthy of ditching duck hunting?

Fuck! Busted!

In all seriousness, I kill plenty of pheasants (quail have been pretty slim since our last big ice storm), but I've not seen a population around here that would have me even considering ditching ducks for pheasants. I still like hunting them, there just aren't enough to hunt them day in, day out.

But as change of pace every once in a while, I say do it.

I guess it all depends on the question. If the choice is skip a day or two of duck hunting to do some good upland hunting, then yes. I would probably skip a few days.

If the question is do one or the other, then no. I really enjoy duck hunting and would rather spend my day in the blind than chasing birds.

I have killed a huge pile of quail and pheasants in my life.

I never had an upland hunt I enjoyed more than a waterfowl hunt.

I think you missed the "In Nebraska" part. I was more referencing the situation where you pick upland OVER duck hunting. Hell, whenever possible, I try to do both.

I haven't hunted ducks with a "good" dog, but I love to be in the blind. Until I see a good duck dog in action, there will be several upland hunts that were more enjoyable than duck hunts just because I got to see really good dogs work.

I love upland. I think more because it brings back memories of pheasant and rabbit hunts with my dad as a kid. Pheasant hunting here borders on dangerous. You can't hunt till 8 so at 7:30 thier are 40 guys lined up in the parking lot and at 8 they are literally running into the woods blasting anything they see. The only way is private clubs and that's out of my league.
I would definitely trade a good upland hunt for duck any day.

Is that a fact? What did I do wrong here?

Was it the amount of birds we shot?

Was it my M2? I blame the Robertsons for that.

Sorry Nuff, I don't think I was 'doing it wrong'.

The FACT is I really, REALLY like waterfowl hunting, a lot more than upland. Come on man, I grew up in freaking Kansas, I was shooting pheasants and quail when I was 12 years old.

It never, ever, was as fun as duck hunting is for me.

This here-

Image

was 10 times more fun than any pheasant hunt I have ever been on, but that was not one of the original questions.

I would hunt quail but they are too easy to hunt that I might as well hunt with a golden retriever. No challenge.

Jarbo,

Yes. Calling in the top predator and taking him is a unique thrill, and it ain't easy.

Getting a double is very cool.

Getting a double on your birthday?

PRICELESS.

Nothing against upland hunting, I just have found several other things I would rather hunt.

Goes like this, FOR ME

WATERFOWL
Coyotes
Turkey
Upland
Deer

Oh contraire, for the most part I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Michigan. There were still quite a few things that I missed about Nebraska (family being a big one), but I wouldn't hesitate to set up shop there if the right opportunity presented itself. Now my stay in Detroit is another story...

It's not about killing birds. I kill about a dozen grouse and maybe 20 woodcock a year...Only time I kill pheasants is when I buy them. There is nothing like watching my pup run like mad through the thickest shit she can find and full speed, then instantly locking up with a bird 20 yards ahead of her.

20 yards is no problem for a good dog, have seen lockup points on chickens and sharptails from way further than that.

Maybe low grasslands, but no way on the chest high crap that we walk through.

If it it's the chest high thick stuff, I'd love to see it.
