Preseason 2026-2027

[MARSH BEAR]

We have a workday in the marsh on Saturday, August 29.
Joey and I did such a good job fertilizing back in April we need to cut some of the grass around the blinds so we can see the water in the ponds. With my ankle problem other club members will be cutting the grass.
We are also going to pump the blinds out and get them ready for teal season. I will run the little generator in the boat while another club member uses a sump pump to empty the water out of the blinds.
I have been so cooped up after surgery I can't wait to get out there.

I'm scairt bailing a blind will conjure a storm surge to pop it at this point in the year.

[MARSH BEAR]

We have pumped blinds out before and had to go back pump water back into them before the storm

My thing is just not wanting to have to pump any more mucky pond water into a blind than need be pre-storm. Was a necessity with Doug's steel blinds that I covered to prevent inside rust that may not be with CR's fiberglass ones - depending on summer rains.

[Darren]

Glad to hear of your scheme's MB, best of luck with it all

[MARSH BEAR]

Went to the camp on Friday, put my boat in the water (with help from my friends), went back to the camp to find tools and pumps for Saturday.
The water in the marsh is low, but a little higher than last week according the crabber. Todd and I went around the whole lease pumping water out of the blinds and we saw about 200 teal and another 30 +- Mottle ducks moving around. Something we normally don't see this time of year
Found out a boat is not the best place to try and get around with a bad ankle. Hoping it will be better by Sept 19, if not I will go anyway.

[DComeaux]

Hope that ankle gets better for you.

That's the spirit!

Glad to hear of birds showing on your end too

[MARSH BEAR]

Today is Saturday, September 5 which is 2 weeks, 14 days until Teal Season, get ready it is almost here

[MARSH BEAR]

Will be going to the camp tomorrow morning. Joey and I will make a pass around the blinds and pump out any water that may be in them. Joey also wants to spray some insect killer around the blinds to kill ants, spiders, etc.

I am hoping my ankle will hold up to the task. I have been doing yard work, but duck hunting is a little different.

Good luck to all on Saturday.

[Rick]

And to you MB.

[MARSH BEAR]

I know most of the people on this site don't keep tract of things like this, but today Oct 19, 2026 is 26 days until THE duck season

Make sure you have shotgun shells, and the ole smooth bore gun is in the best working order possible.

[Darren]

Love it! Feels great out, mornings should be nice all week

enjoy!

[MARSH BEAR]

I looked at the weather in Minot, ND - just because I could
Today - 75 degrees
Oct 24 - high 45 low 25

For the next 10 days highs in the mid 40s, lows between 25 and 30 degrees, maybe that will start some ducks moving south

[Rick]

Maybe...

We're cranking the pump Monday, just in case some do and make it this far.

A report from White,SD.Our regular duck season started September 26th.Ofcourse all local ducks with mixed results...heard same kind of reports from ND.In general it has been warmer than normal temps with average rains.Little to NO migration.Fields wise most of the bean cut but still a lot of standing corn.No freezing temps to lock up small waters (on average this occurs mid November)

As Rick knows I'm a transplanted urban cajun from New Orleans that started duck hunting at my Dad's camp in 1953.
The fact there's a whistling duck Season in Louisiana tells me how the NON migration of ducks has affected the southern end of the Mississippi Flyway......How Sad !!!

We gave the special black-belly season a pass so as not to risk running off what's become an important part of the regular season. And for reasons known only to them, even our black-bellies have been showing up later the past couple seasons...
