Birds were flaring from the robos out here during the last month of the season. If I came across a drake wigeon flying by myself. I would start him with the whistle and the hen quacks would puttem in the decs.....killed a lot of them during later part of the season. Works for me, not saying it would for everybody.

Posted: Wed Feb 05, 2014 7:16 amCould have been exaggerating a tad about the trumpet, but they and grays are the only big ducks I might flip the whirligig on and leave it on for. Have always found more leverage in squacky quacks than whistles for the whistling species other than wood ducks and tree ducks. With the exception being that whistling like a bazillion teal, instead of quacking, sometimes makes local ducks that dang well know the blind slip up. Mostly, though, I'd prefer that 98% of the folks who want to call with me blow whistles, because they're not too apt to run birds off. Just how it's gone for me.
