Alliant steel...

Postby NuffDaddy » Mon Jul 29, 2013 4:53 pm

...does not exist. Checked every local powder supplier within 50 miles. Any ideas on where else to get it? The $20 HAZMAT fee kinda sucks buying it online.

It can suck to find. Last tear I found a supplier near Topeka, an hour away. Before that, my 2 previous bottles came from Hutchinson, 3.5 hrs away. Best bet might be a 4# bottle, even with hazmat would be cheaper per #

That's what I figured. It will get used, just kinda hurts buying that much at a time.

I shot about 200 total last year. Guess the 4lb would last me awhile.
Do you buy your powder online or locally?

I gave my name to the biggest powder dealer by me. They are supposed to call if they get any in. Guess I'll buy some online to get me started.

Anybody know the best/cheapest place to buy online?

Have you tried Franks in Linwood and Guns Galore in Fenton?

I have purchased from both in the past.

I have never seen Steel powder at Gander Mountain or Cabelas. I have purchased mine from Franks in Linwood, Guns Galore in Fenton or Jays in Clare.

Good luck.

Ran out of time today, but I'll give all those places a call and see if they have some.

No go at Linwood. The rest of the places I'll pay more in gas than the hazmat fee. Guess I'll just buy some bulk.

I've resorted to buying in bulk to spread the hazmat cost across everything. I also don't have any place close that has reasonable pricing.

I have been getting my powder and primers from powder valley. I'm sure they don't have anything in stock now like many other places. I stocked up last year so I shouldn't need powder or primers for about 3-4 years

I will say this, there is a reloading supply place I've used that has packed powder and primers along with wads and shot without charging me a hazmat fee

Took the recipes out of status of steel. I'm open to suggestions.

I have 1 and 3 shot. Mostly duck loads, but want some that will kill a goose for the early season.

PM sent. Crimps are crucial for performance with steel.

Not compromise- the question in this case was "what's the best shot size for killing ducks and geese?' Answer: #2. Compromise in this case would have been "carry some 3's for ducks, and some 1s for geese". Which would have sucked, because you would have had the wrong one in the gun when you needed it. And compromise always violates the Theory of Medium.

Jehler- forcefield. Boom immune.
