Tried out 3 different loads today.

All were #3 shot through a Remington 870 with a factory flush modified choke at 35 yards.
Circles are 30" diameter.

Multihull with cheddite 209 primer
RangerPlus wad
1 1/8oz
38grns. Alliant STEEL powder
1445 FPS

Shot 1---67%
Shot 2---55%
Shot 3---61%

Patterns had multiple holes big enough for a medium sized duck to get through.

43grns. Alliant STEEL powder
1605 FPS

Shot 1---70%
Shot 2---60%
Shot 3---79%

What chokes did you try?
And sorry to say it brotha but you need a chrony to verify the fps

All out of a rem mod choke.
I meant to put that the FPS is just by the books, not actual...musta forgot.

When figuring out what works, besides patterns a nice consistent velocity that is what's expected is nice. Of I had your money if buy an oehler

Maybe it's just me, but I don't have a clue what any of this means.

It means: velocities can vary greatly,
And the only way to truly know what your loads are doing is to measure them

$600 is a little outa budget for a broke college kid though.

Just get a pressure trace and make up your own loads instead.

The middle set of patterns/loads seemed pretty good to me. What kind of loader are you using? 2 3/4 or 3 inch?

I really like both LBC loads.
I hand measure everything on a digital scale, and use a cheapo Lee Loadall 2 to seat the wad and crimp it. It's a little slow, but I think it works pretty good. It will do both 2 3/4" and 3". These were all 3" loads.

Don't sweat the holes too much on one or two patterns, go by your averages, unless you are getting them consistently over a dozen patterns or more. Have you tried any multi metal or CSD wads in that Remington? I think it's worth your while if you have any to give them a go

Also I qualify patterns at 40 yards, of I like what I see there I go closer and farther.

Have you tried the 2 3/4" MM load, Nuff? Fed GM hull. All I ended up shooting last season with great results.

Not yet. I'm gonna order some stuff this week. Is there anything else I should try so I can hopefully get myself set with this order?

I've always just done 35. Don't know why. Then if I like it I'll do 25, 45 and 55 and see if I still like it.

This one is from Cannon and used by many. I'll pull up the recipe in the morning before I say what I belive it is by memory. Get Jehler's opinion on it to since it is a wildcat and I don't have official numbers. Cannon gets just over 1400 with it.

cheddite/gold 34 grains asteel...11/8shot i usually use 2's but 1's are just as good..band p 32 wad(11/8 wad) 1475-1500 fps depending on hull

Gold medal mm wad 11/8 shot 32 grains asteel fed209a primer 1425 fps

this pattern is what you end up with using either load

Nuff for the record CSD wads are the same as the tuwb or whatever there called for the lightning steel loads, just different name from ballistic
