Here's what a real uniform looks like DC.

Didn't include your favorite monkey in the pic? :D Bet you have some pretty cool pictures stashed away.

Here's a better picture of how we polished our boots. Was just recovering from malaria which explains my thin frame.

Look the stache. Could be an aviator, if not for the tiger fatigues. I seemed to stay in boot trouble. Wasn't going to fly in the nylon ankled jungle boots they issued me back in Oakland and supply couldn't get me all leather through channels, so I wore Wellingtons until I traded with a NZ fighter pilot for some sweet pigskins they wore. Don'tcha know that was the first question I heard at my NCO board, but when they heard the story, minus what I'd traded, they were ok with it. What wasn't so ok was the night we were on standby and got scrambled only to have it be some colonel with insomnia wanting a lift. Who'da thunk Wellies, shorts and a Harvey Wallbanger t-shirt were improper dress for playing taxi? Might have been in a real bind if the pilot's attire was better.

That's classic Vietnam chopper crew attire.
It's funny how when we went into the army back then everything was spit polish stateside and how fast the rules got tossed after a little time "in country". Once I had to brief some regular army infantry officers about a hot area near the Cambodian border they were about to take their troops into on an operation. Showed up at their camp straight from the bush with a weeks growth of beard, tiger fatigues soaked in 100% deet, hadn't had a shower in a few weeks and was reeking pretty bad. First question one of them asked me was why there wasn't any nametag, rank or unit insignias on my uniform? Told him we don't do that here. Then he asked me where my dogtags were.....I told him they were in a coffee can sitting on the bar at the SF club and "do you want this frigging briefing or don't you". I believe that's the first time any of them had ever met a guy from SOG and they didn't quite know what to think. After the briefing, they came to understand. Military was a little different back then.

Supposedly the military is going to just 1 uniform. But yes they tried phasing these out for the multi cams

what were you doing in Idaho?
Idaho Falls is hardcore mormon country.

hardcore and Mormon don't sound right together...

I flew out there to meet my old man who had taken off last month to go cross country by himself on his Harley. I rented a bike from the local Harley dealership to ride with him for a week. We made it into South Dakota before I had to cruse back to Idaho to catch a flight back to NC.
You're right about hardcore Mormon country. There's enough missionaries coming into and out of this joint that they have installed bicycle racks ontop of the airplanes.

got lots of experience with that shit, i'm from western idaho. use to chase off the mormons coming to my door with my dick out, seems to work pretty well when they think you're reciting some demonic chant and trying to get them to join an orgy.

Here's a little trivia for you Quack.
Tiger fatigues were not an official US-issue item in Vietnam. We had to have our camo fatigues custom-made by local tailors and paid for the clothing ourselves out of an allowance.

You should try sour cream and raisin pie. Had it at some Amish restaurant in Kansas. Easily the best dessert I've ever had.

Chocolate, coconut, banana creme, and lemon meringue are all pie ingredients, raisins and sour cream are not.
