Haha it's a lesson in humility. I have persistence and time on my side though. And it was free so I'm good. Wanted one of these for a while but didn't think I'd use it enough to spend the couple hundred on one.

On a topical note, I priced the materials for the bigger Gen II Hybrid, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the prices from US Composites have actually gone DOWN in the last 3 years, which is fucking outstanding, even if it is a little hard to believe. Looking at about $225 for poly/glass, and $50 in other materials, so minus paint, I'll still be below $300. Makes me happy, happy, happy.

uscomposites.com is the way to go if you build another one. I'm ordering a 5-gallon bucket this time, so I'm getting hit with a $26 HAZMAT fee, which is bullshit. I did/will use poly resin again, though, not epoxy.

I just went to Lowes and bought the Bondo Fiberglass resin and hardener for cheaper than what US composites had it listed as. It's been 3 years now and holding strong. I talked to a guy who builds fiberglass boats for a living and he told me to use fiberglass mat next time over the cloth.

Yeah, the wood is only $5 a sheet, and I'll use about 4 for this one. It would be more if I had to buy a half sheet of plywood or something for the transom, but I've got that crap laying around. Only need the luaun.

Red, this one's going to be 10'6", with a dog deck on the back, same size cockpit, and maybe pods. Haven't made up my mind yet, and will probably just wing it as I go.

I don't like the mat because it soaks up so much resin, and that shit gets heavy. Mine is only 4oz cloth with poly resin, and is 3 years old, no cracks at all yet. The marine grade poly reson is $125 for a 5 gallon bucket, which is probably 2 gallons more than I'll need, but I'm using 7oz cloth this time, and I tend to make a mess, so am getting the big tub.

You should just make a separate cockpit for the dog. Like an old biplane. That would look cool as hell.
