If you wanted to express what we are talking about in as few words as possible all you need to do is read The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling.

Kipling wrote this:

THE LAW OF THE JUNGLE.:
You may kill in order to eat or to keep from being eaten.

Kipling was a very wise man, obviously.

X2 cause that made sense!!!

I have given or shared game, including deer, elk, antelope, birds and every species of fish I have caught, with people that do not hunt and fish or, are not as fortunate in their endeavor to hunt or fish.
I find it ludicrous that I would be expected to eat everything I kill. That is an ego thing for sure.

But if you weren't going to eat anything you kill, would you still hunt?

It's not about personally eating everything you hunt, but not letting it go to waste. If you kill it, it serves a purpose.

If I didn't eat any of it, I wouldn't hunt. Hell, I stopped turkey hunting because I couldn't stand eating those filthy bastards anymore. But I don't feel an obligation to HAVE to eat. It just appeals to my sense of thrift.

I'm all for that and understand what and agree with what he is saying. But to eat nothing that you kill, as said in the op, isn't quite right imo. Whether it be due to lazyness, gayness, not liking it or whatever if you're not going to partake in using any of if it for anything but "gifting" I don't think you should be killing. Again nothing at all wrong with giving others meat, hide, feathers, etc from your kills but the person killing should be doing something with it for themselves as well. I've never heard of a vegetarian hunter.

Redbeard wrote:...who don't eat duck. I'm curious. What're your feelings on guys who hunt ducks....shoot a lot of ducks...but don't eat them? Or give them away? Or leave them all with another guy in the group? Had this problem with a guy we've hunted with a lot over the years. Finally culled him from the group

What say you?

You culled him from the group...........Who in the fuck appointed you god or king of the universe?

Is there anyone here that doesn't like or eat liver? To me, ducks are like flying liver. It is only in the past few years that I have found a couple of recipes for duck that I like. In the past I gave all the ducks I shot away, even if I had to clean and pick them, in fact I used to pay to have them picked so that I could give them away.

Why do I hunt ducks?......Because it is fun to kill them, fun to shoot a shotgun, fun to hunt with friends and fun to watch the duck splash and the dog retrieve. When I lived in California, I used to use most of the ducks I shot for dog training. I feel very strongly that game shouldn't be wasted, it should be utilized for something and I can't think of a time that I have knowingly wasted any game that I have shot.

I now keep most of the ducks I shoot, but I don't pick them, only breast them and marinate the breast and fry them, pound the breasts and wrap them around jalapeno pepper and cream cheese with bacon and grill them or my new favorite way is to smoke the breast and eat it as an appetizer.

I don't neither judge nor fault anyone that kills game and doesn't eat it so long as he doesn't waste it. So get off your fucking high horse and think about it rather than just reacting. It is pretty easy to have a "holier than thou" attitude and it is also easy to jump to conclusions but you might try to consider things from others viewpoints.

Oh so hunting for just the band on a ducks leg is ok? That constitutes to "using" what you shot for decoration or bragging rights or whatever. So, band hunting is OK by you? Take them down and check for bands is OK, I think not.
