I'm not in the main flyway. I'm on the north coast. We get very few honkers. So few the limit is 1 a day. We get hit with aleutian heavy but they're tough little bastards to hunt

That's the cool part about CA every area is unique. In the Sacramento Valley where I hunt there are not a lot of Canada's but we get hundreds of thousands of snows and specks. Last season I shot my first Aleutians in 17 years. But 3 hrs north west where red beard lives they are like fleas up there.

don taylor wrote:There is a big difference in bird numbers between your area and mine, along with about a dozen other factors. Your gameplan is similar to my fellow statesman and it simply doesn't yeild results around here. Talk about shooting over 100 birds a season, almost everybody hear calls bullshit, it's that hard. My dedication is what gets me results. I wish i had it easier, really, but out here in the duck desert, it's tough. We have tons of geese, but you can't just go sit at old reliable and expect them to show up early season.

Don, you're amusing and you don't even try. When I said it was a waste to scout a month ahead, it had nothing to do with you and your area. I was talking about here.
So then you gotta state it's so much easier is why we get so many ducks but, you get more geese because you're dedicated.
You gotta remember, we have a liberal season of 107 days, 7 ducks daily. Last season I hunted 42 of those days. I don't shoot 7 a day every day but, I also seldom shoot 0 in a day.
Don't worry you got me beat by a long shot on geese for the past 2 seasons, gauranteed. I only shot 2 geese last season and both were on duck hunts in WY, one was banded. The year previous, I only shot 2 geese in Oregon, on duck hunts, one was banded.
The reason I haven't shot geese for the last 2 years, for the most part, I didn't target them even one time.
It's really not a contest. If I were in your situation, likely I would target geese more.
I'm all about getting out as much as I can. If I kill alot of birds that's cool with me, it's a bonus.
I actually only hunted about 20 days in each of the two years previous to last season. I gaurantee those were my worst number years but, I had a great time and hunted when I could.
Who knows, maybe your duck desert might be different this season, with all the droughts in the midwest.
Good luck out there and remember, it's only a race until you get to the blind.

When she returned she was drunk, on birth control, and had a tramp stamp ... Drakes can't resist her. I don't really scout, I just go hunting. If it ends up being schitty I call it a scouting trip. When you go as often as I do you're bound to kill a bird or two per year.

Yeah, they're here aplenty, but for some reason, I can't kill one. Sort of like buck fever, only with sprigs instead of deer. I see them coming from far off, and I start to hyperventilate. I usually pull the trigger when they're about 90 yards away still, because I can't wait any longer. Which would be fine if I was shooting Hevi #4 at 1905fps, like some can do.
