In CA, Deltaman, if doesn't matter what age you are. They have the certificates in a data base since 1989, so you can get a copy through the DFG. However, even if you are 80 and have neither a HS Course or a previous year's license, you take the course over.

I believe CA's rule also includes 'if you have been licensed another state in the last 5 years' or something like that.
