Not a chance. Californians have convinced the world that it's not a choice...you're born that way.

My father had been stationed at Moffit Field and we were moving into our new house. My parents bought the house for $17,500 and it was brand new, so new that they hadn't finished paving the streets in the subdivision. We got there the same time as the moving van. My parents went to bed that night, happy that I had finished the 8th grade for sure but worried that they wouldn't be able to make the first payment on the new house, $104 per month. I had 5 younger brothers and sisters. My mother still lives there. Our family has never been big on 8th grade graduation. I had 7 brothers and sisters and about the best we ever celebrated elementary school graduation was a special dinner my mother made and perhaps a cake and a card. We were a family of 10 living on my fathers military pay. Lots of water under the bridge since then. The house was paid off in 1988. At my last brothers wedding we had 41 people all from our direct family. We've re-roofed the house three or four times, remodeled a couple of times, added central air when my dad thought my mother was getting old and all the kids were gone. I've always considered that house in San Jose my 8th grade graduation present.
