Just an example but lots of people take it that seriously when spending their time and gas finding spots. Personally I'm a lineman at the power company I work my 40 every week plus 700-1200 hrs over a year. I have 2 kids that play sports which I help coach for them and the other kids. I don't have time to scout and find spots for me and my crew then worry about someone else getting out of group and sneaking in. Gotta look at it from all angles. Is it legal yes but I wouldn't do it and don't expect it to be done. Everyone has their own opinion and I'm not trying to be a ****, it's just a touchy subject once it happens to you. Just think you find a good spot and take a buddy. Next year you don't hunt together birds are in you go to setup and he's in your hole...

I dont think anyone is saying what he is doing is morally right, just legal. I think everyone would be torked off if someone you introduced to a little honey hole showed up and took control of your spot, good friend or ex. Some people just dont care and have no morals to honor anyone elses hard work. Reminds me of the Lance Armstrong wannabees who wont ride on the tax paid bike trails and prefer to hold up traffic just because it's legal.
Heck, I'd rather he steals my wife than my hunting spot! (dont anyone tell her I said that  )

I agree, again I never said legal or illegal though. I thought it went without saying that it was legal. I Think maybe I've said enough on this one so I'll set out and read on

The land owner owns multiple fields there is about 20 guys who have permission on these fields but its first there gets field we sat at field at 2 am just so we got it that morning.. I have decided Im not going near that field BUT if I find out or see him near my fields or he tries to get permission on one of my fields then gloves are off.. I will be respectfull as long as he is...

I started field hunting with a guy this fall for geese in the early season. Took scouting to a whole new level I never realized. I was putting on close to 100 miles a day after the hunt to look for birds for the next day.
Lot of drama goes on there too though. Found birds in one field that he was sure a kid he previously hunted with was going to try and screw him. We got to the field over 3 hours before LST to block and the field entrances. Kid never showed either and we stacked some geese.

I've done something like that before. Set up on one of my ponds at 3:30-4:00 one morning cause I was told I was gonna get run off my spot since the jackasses were gonna beat me there. Weather had turned cold that night and it was in the low 20's. They never showed. Ended up with my second bull wigeon and a hen gadwall that day. Only birds I saw.

Still a dick move.

There's a lot of water "out there" but the ducks definitely have preferences for where they want to be...too many boats busting on one spot and soon no one has a good hunt.

Then again, maybe I'm just a prick. Certainly a possibility - I do have a bit of a reputation amongst friends...

If he had permission from the landowner and could set up a legal distance away, the second you blocked those entrances you broke the law and became just as much of a dickhead.

I don't know if he had permission. I didn't ask, but the guy I was hunting with made it sound like the kid didn't.

How is parking in a private field entrance that you have permission for illegal?

Let's say you are an anti hunter and you do that...

What is it then?

A pain in the ass. As long as they have permission there is nothing illegal about it as far as I know.

Wait until you spend $4-5,000 in gas, vacation days, & miles (not to mention frozen ass time) - only to take a friend to THE spot, and have him show up 2 days later with friends of his in their boat, and set up within 50 feet of your gps co-ord's from the previous day.

Oh, I would be upset. No doubt. Just more upset if say I have permission for a very productive private marsh, take a buddy there and the next week he enters a lease with the farmer and butts me out.

Serious Question ??

Postby Woody » Mon Dec 08, 2014 8:24 pm

Private land with owners open to hunting is very limited. The Great Lakes are huge.

That's just my way of thinking... We all know I won't steel a location and am willing to put the foot/boat time and money in to find my own place. The UP trip and probably the next 3 or 4 are testimony to that.

I would call that hunter harassment.

It's no different than parking in a driveway. Now if they try and prevent you from parking elsewhere and walking into the field, then that might be hunter harassment. Or if they got in the way while you were hunting. Even then I would think your have a tough time getting any legal action taken on them with it being private. Would be more of a civil matter between the landowner and the people he gives permission to.

Should have picked better friends. Public land is public land and no one should have the attitude that you own it no matter how much hard work/money you put in to "finding" it. Just my opinion of course.

They may be huge, but ducks still like certain spots.

I've never had a guy lease out from under me, however I have invited farmers or their kids to hunt with me which then turned them into hunters and I eventually quit hunting those farms.

Here's a great story - I once had a "friend" that had access to literally thousands of acres of farm land for free. We lived about 75 miles apart and We would trade hunts occasionally when one or the other of us had stale birds/fields. We'd hunt together maybe 5 times a season.
I called him once when I had a field holding 12-1300 geese and nearly as many mallards and we put together a group of killers and butchered birds for a weekend. Epic shoot.

Next season, I went to get permission and visit with the farmer only to find out that my "friend" had been there and had gotten permission already.

Oh really.

I went home and made about 3 dozen flyers that said "WATERFOWL LEASES WANTED - PAYING TOP DOLLAR FOR ACCESS TO FARM LAND" with a bogus number to call, and then posted them in every country diner, feed store and sale barn within 10 miles of his home range. You're welcome asshole.

Never said I owned it...just said that I'll be damned if my efforts to have good hunts are going to get fucked over because someone wants to be an Internet/Pro-Staff hero off my back.

I like to shoot ducks, not look at other boats.
