I'm afraid the list of things we need more than another call is long. If it goes, it will have to be for cash. (And I can tell myself a numbered first run is money in the bank in the mean time.)

If you still have it when I offload some of my most recent purchase (pictures coming), I'll likely take that off your hands...

Just picked this up in the parking lot at work from some dude who tried to return it to us, except we don't carry it. I'm kinda pissed at myself though, he snaked the Angry Bird ($150 retail) when I ran to the ATM to get cash. Can't complain too much, only paid $200 for the lot.

I wish I would've done that. The price always gets me, and I just buy a piece at a time. I need a big ass Dutch oven. One has made it into my cart at least 5 times, but I always shitcan it before getting to the register.

that was the bulk of the price i paid, got a 6 quart camp style dutch for 80. i know a lot of people don't like Lodge, but their slight texture really holds onto the seasoning well i think.

just pulled the pieces out, they came out nice. first time using lard to season, normally i use crisco. i think i will do another coat or two with crisco instead of the lard though. still need to do the dutch but that will have to wait until i get back on thursday. i'm anxious to use the dutch, i may end up pissing off the neighbors and throwing a pile of kingsford in the grass in the common

Montana, my dad uses a dutch often, he bought one of those metal oil change pans to put the charcoal in when cooking. Sets it up on top of 2 cinder blocks side by side - gets it up off the ground a little too.

Ok, I know you just got it, and you're happy, but I've never seen the point of getting one made for a campfire. You can't use it on the top of the stove, which really limits its use, in my opinion. Darn near any meat cooked in it needs to be browned first, and that requires direct heat. I've always been of the mind to get a flat lid model made for the oven, with no legs, Lieutenant Dan style. If I ever needed to cook on coals, I could just as easily put three rocks under the thing to give it a life, but I could also use it on the top of the stove. I don't know. Like I said, just my opinion.

that's why i bought a deep bottom chicken fryer too

i didn't really get the dutch for stovetop cooking, i'm planning on using it in the oven. the chicken fryer is more than big enough for anything i'll cook on top of the stove.

i guess if worse came to worse though, i can just mark where the legs hit on the stovetop and drill a few holes, problem solved and i'll never have to worry about it accidentally falling off
