This one wasn't "bad" but that's because it's a five inch screen and not a damn computer monitor. I'm selling my gps and the rest was split between dad brother and I. Besides is I went with any more than this it would be overly redonkulous on my 40 year old 14 jon lol

I've mostly cooked roasts in them, so it's not like I really need the ability to "cook" on the stovetop, just brown something before putting it in the oven.

the girlfriend used the new skillet for the first time last night, she made pork chops. they stuck a little bit but more lard fixed that. they came out damn good and looked like something that would cost 50 bucks at a G may restaurant. Sunday i am roasting a chicken. how do you think your marinade recipe would turn out in the dutch versus the smoker?

Might be a little strong. I think the smoke tones down/counters the vinegar, but I could be wrong.

I keep my cast iron pans (two of them) and my deep pan (sort of a small oven, with a handle which has a smaller frying pan for a lid) in the oven here. Take them out and set on the counter while we use the oven for whatever it is we're doing. Whenever we're done cooking something in the oven, I add a little oil to the pans which were sitting on the counter, wipe them with a paper towel, and put them back in the oven as soon as we take the food out and turn the oven off. Then, they sit in there coated with oil, heat up a bit from the leftover heat of the oven, and cool down with it. Makes for very good non-stick, continual seasoning. I can fry eggs without adding anything to the pan, and they come out like a teflon pan. Just an idea, which works pretty good for us.

hmm, maybe i'll cut the vinegar in half then?

i have basically the same process, when i'm done cooking i quickly wipe out the still hot pan, and wipe it with my lard/Crisco rag. throw it back on the stove/in the oven for ten minutes then shut off the heat and let it cool. Every month or so i turn the oven on to 450 and wipe off all the excess oil on the pan, throw it in for an hour and let it bake. shut off the heat and leave it overnight to cool, regrease in the morning. same result, i can slide eggs in the older pan with no grease.

No, I do this even when we didn't cook in that pan. Gets it a lot more seasoning time. For example, we make brownies. Take pans out, preheat oven, put brownies in in baking dish, take them out when done, turn off oven. Immediately put cast iron back in oven (where they are stored), let them heat and cool down in just-used oven, drawing the oil in. For the record, I like Lodge also.

bought a new tire just now. got home last night to find i had a flat, looks like the tire took a romex right through it. went to a tire shop here in town that instead of fixing my tire, tried to sell me a line of horse shit about how my tires which only have 3,000 on them are too worn out and that a brand new tire would ruin my differential, and tried to sell me a brand new set of used tires instead. i called the guy out and told him to fuck off, and made him load up my flat back in my truck. went to the place that sold me the tires in the next town over, they gave me the brand new tire for 73 bucks, gave me free additional siping, and a free rotation, and did it all in under 15 minutes.

I keep all my cast iron in my stove also. Do pretty much the same thing as Assa just not as often I bet.

I don't know, you seem to cook quite a bit also. Although this time of year, if the wife fires up the oven, I threaten her with a punch in the throat. If it can't be cooked on the grill or on the turkey fryer outside, it's going to be sandwiches for dinner. Way too hot in the house for that crap.

Everything I cook on the stove is in a cast iron pan or pot. If it's in the oven glass is better sometimes. So yea I do use my cast iron collection all the time. My favorite is a 12" pan and it's so seasoned it's almost like glass on the inside.

Same here. even when it would make more sense to use an 8" pan, I find myself using the "favorite" pretty much all the time. Between the gas stove, and cast iron pans, it's very easy to get spoiled. Last summer I was at a buddy's house, and he wanted me to cook some enchiladas. Trying to use that damn flat ceramic electric cooktop and thin little teflon pans sucked. A lot.
