Here's an idea- get two pieces of tin (use a soup can or beer can), about 3/4" x 4", and one piece about 3/4" x 8".

Criss cross the two shorter ones over the opening, wrapping the extra down each side. Then wrap the longer strip around the top edge of the pipe, making it look "finished" covering up the ends that you wrapped over. Then drill and run a small screw through the band and each tab. Then drill a hole in the center of the "cross", and run a screw through center of the Weber vent. The 3/4" strips of a tin can should be plenty wide to block the 4 holes, and when you want it open more, just spin it so the holes line up with the gaps in the cross. Basically free, and it should look almost "professional"

If you are thinking about this for the lid of the top pipe, you are pissing up a rope, IMO.

think I'll just take the stack out and lay the weber vent cover flat on the lid

I got all the hardware except 2 elbows, they didn't have any. I still need to the drum, and expanded metal.

Just ordered a bottle opener, and thermometer as well. Hoping to have it built and smokin something next weekend.

FYI, I have the 22" weber and my lid doesn't fit on my barrel. I don't know if my barrel just has an extra large lip on it or what. Hopefully yours fits

Here's mine with the weber lid

cut the rolled top off the barrel and that lid will fit. (I think)

This electric piece of shit will soon be altered. Will put a valve where the cord comes out the bottom. Will build a stack foe the lid and a firebox. Should be ready to go. I need one more item to complete my outdoor cooking arsenal.

Jarbo. what would it take to get you to have me make you the wooden pieces you need for that Brinkmann Pittmaster Deluxe?
I have an identical smoker. Yours needs a little love.
Paint it with high temp rustoleum paint...why?
You can't buy a grill like that anymore.

It does need some love, had been sittin at my dads for 5+ years uncovered, nice to have it back in use. I have the wood and paint to shine it up, now all I need is the time and the want to. These ribs are currently blazing away.

ain't no fancier than yours. It's just the high gloss paint. Makes it look like a Mercedes, when it's just an old Datsun. That paint, by the way, seemed real thin. Got a lot of damn runs. But since it's just a barrel smoker...who cares

Working on my vent cover now...final touch
