Breathables are comfy, but every wader will eventually leak. Minor leaks in neoprene and you stay warm. Pinhole leaks in breathable and you freeze your dick off.

I hope it's a page turner. I have put too many books down, never to return, right in the middle of the book.

I lack the discipline to get past the "bad" parts. I love historical stuff though, so that should help with this one.

It helps if you put yourself in their position. Even in the "slow" parts, remember they were writing in those journals 1000 miles from anything besides what they brought with them, with not a clue what was around the next bend.

This one should be easy. I know very little of the expedition, but should know more. The "what happens next?" should be enough for this one.

Thanks AT.

Here's my latest wader purchase.
Image
It is a set of waders in dry suit material. There is a local guy that contracts to the military for drysuit and all kinds of other shit.
The outer layer is somes sort of tough cordura. I've only hunted 3-4 times in them because I didn't get them until the last week of the season. There is plenty of room in these to add clothing underneath if needed. They are easier than neoprene to move around in. Also, there is life time warranty for leaks and the boots can be replaced if anything happens to them.
My preference up to this point has been 5mm duramag made of the dura stretch material. There are no 3mm waders that will hod up to the kind of brush we bust while hunting. Also, 3mm will not withstand the temperatures I hunt in WY.

2010 and 2011. Very cold a few mornings. Albeit very thin ice. I've actually had to plow through ice in a kayak in a swamp abt 20 miles north of the ga/fl border once before too.once again a thin sheet of ice but it does get cold here. And especially since I've always lived in this climate my definition of cold and ability to withstand it it's not that of a northerner like yourself. Last two winters though have been hot as shit and last year those vinyls were nice on 50+ degree mornings.

I'll tell you what, 2 Januarys ago my dad and I (mostly I, he forgot gloves and had to run home) broke through 3-4 inches of ice with spade... I had on some cordura (kind of like carhart jacket cloth) waders and some wader pants (I was afraid the neoprene would rip) and it was a terrible choice... I started sweating and it was 3F out. So, with in 30 minutes of finishing the hole I was cold as shit. If I had worn neoprenes they would have acted like a warm suit and I would have been fine.

Breathables are only good for southern places. You try and wear that shit where it gets really cold and you're gonna have a bad time.

You need to move farther south:

Not that that wasn't novelty enough to inspire the photo, but we do catch a few hard freeze days some winters. Bought my first breathables one year when my my marsh pit ruptured late in the year and we hunted out the season standing in sometimes literally freezing water, and they, over jeans and light duofold(?) long handles, were fine for that. But I got chilled in that same combo hunting out of the water on a windy 20 degree day, so I bought a couple pairs of heavy fleece britches that I've not since seen a day cold enough to wear. Have roasted every time I've tried to justify that investment, but I'm ready for the next ice age when it comes.

Breathables are useless after September up here.

oddly my hands are fine. i don't usually wear work gloves in summer anymore but i wear those latex palmed work gloves in winter and my hands don't get too cold.

we don't have fall, we pretty much go from 80 to 15 overnight.
