Bulldog0156 wrote:Neoprene is for dumb fucking rednecks that don't know any better. I rock breathables all year and stay plenty warm. Synthetic layering is good for when it's cold out. And breathables are way more durable than shitty neoprene.

Gets plenty cold here. It's the humidity.

When was the last time you broke ice down there to open up a landing zone?

2010 and 2011. Very cold a few mornings. Albeit very thin ice. I've actually had to plow through ice in a kayak in a swamp abt 20 miles north of the ga/fl border once before too.once again a thin sheet of ice but it does get cold here. And especially since I've always lived in this climate my definition of cold and ability to withstand it it's not that of a northerner like yourself. Last two winters though have been hot as shit and last year those vinyls were nice on 50+ degree mornings.

not when you got them old wool pants underneathWoody wrote:Rick wrote:rebelp74 wrote:In the north part of the state, where I am, it gets cold. Granted not cold to y'all but I've had my waders freeze solid a few times. Water gets into the 40's here. Usually have a thin sheet of ice a few from tge bank a few times a year. But it never freezes up.
You need to move farther south:
Not that that wasn't novelty enough to inspire the photo, but we do catch a few hard freeze days some winters. Bought my first breathables one year when my my marsh pit ruptured late in the year and we hunted out the season standing in sometimes literally freezing water, and they, over jeans and light duofold(?) long handles, were fine for that. But I got chilled in that same combo hunting out of the water on a windy 20 degree day, so I bought a couple pairs of heavy fleece britches that I've not since seen a day cold enough to wear. Have roasted every time I've tried to justify that investment, but I'm ready for the next ice age when it comes.
Breathables are useless after September up here.

I think in your case it's "not when you never step off the boat".
