It's pretty cool, but there is almost no plumage to be had yet, so it could be better.

Very true. Beautiful birds once feathered out.

Since last season for the upcoming season:

400# mono anchor line, crimps and made some weights
backup shotgun (Benelli SBE) :D
Carlson choke tubes
2 dozen sprig decoys
3 half cases of shells (750 rounds)
One duck call just to be obnoxious

Currently looking for a boat, probably an airboat.......... :?:

Not around here.

Wood duck needs to be added to teal season.

Most, if not all, states with September teal seasons have been given the option of including wood ducks in the bag - but if they want to do so their number of days is substantially cut. For instance, while those shooting only teal are enjoying 16 open days, those shooting woodies and teal only get 9 open days. Taking the wood duck option may be a good deal for states where teal are few and far between, anyway, but hunters in most states with a lot of teal would lynch their biologists and commissioners for giving it a second thought.

For an 18' boat, nothing other than a 454 bbc, for a 16' boat, either a 454 or 350 chevy.

496, 502 and 578 cu in engines burn a lot more gas, don't go appreciably faster and cost more. Airboat motors require a lot of torque and usually operate with a 5,000 rpm red line.

I've got to be able to afford to operate the boat if I get one and I have done a lot of research. My friend/neighbor is a Panther airboat dealer and they come new with lsa and ls3 GM engines. I cannot afford a new Panther Airboat with a 550 hp Cadillac engine and counter rotating props, wish I could.

I have been interested in an airboat also, they are very hard to find here in CA. This is the best I have found so far in my price range, let me know what you think of it.

Already thought of that, got some big sheets of camouflage material to hide the boat under. It should be invisible. How do you like the pattern?

You should hunt SW MI, for the month of october we have to beat them sticks to keep them from clogging up the decoy spread. They are delicious and I am happy that we have so many around here.

i know absolutely nothing about airboats, other than a 502 or bigger is what ya need. Buddy just bought a 502 crate motor with efi and harness for under 12k, can't be that much more than a 454?

Those Cadillac motors rock, you seem the outboards that use them for a power head?

Couple pretty savvy guys who run them for a living have told me the 454 is the most reliable workhorse of the lot. But all I know with certainty is that our 350 is a wimp.

Actually it is twice the cost of a 454 crate motor with 420 or more horsepower.

Keep in mind that anything with tits or sparkplugs requires maintenance and is subject to blow up for the least possible reason.

No shit, I swear he told me it was over ten for the 454 and that's why he went 502?

They were $1/box more than the CoreLokt, and I've got a little project going - so I figured, why not??

Yes.

I've got my old Marlin 336 that my Granddad bought for me when I was 5 - he hunted it for a couple years and then gave it to me. I killed my first deer with it, but it's been the loaner or the starter gun for many of my nephews.
I've been wanting to hunt it for a couple years, but it had shit optics on it and I always ended up taking one of my cannons.
So - I ordered an XS mount/sight combo and a Vortex 2x7 that I'm going to put in QD rings so I have the option of dumping the scope and going with the irons.

Ha ha - I actually can't remember now if I ordered the Vortex 2x7 Diamondback or Leupold 2x7 VX-1 and I can't find my order confirmation, but the shipping tracker says it'll be here Thursday.

That is a bad, bad gun. Had a big ass doe a couple years ago at a feed pile about 50 yards in front of my stand. She wouldn't turn broadside, and started getting twitchy, sniffing around and looking up. So rather than the side of the neck, I shot her right under the chin, looking at me. No shit, that doe did a complete, perfect backflip, and ended on her belly, legs splayed out, looking right back at me, only not seeing so much. Love that rifle.

The Hornady rounds, not so much. I've never had good luck with ballistic tips, and see no reason to put them in a gun not designed for ballistic tips. Just makes me nervous.
