I almost killed myself several times on that sled. Ive since sold it, and use the ol mans nice and slow/safe indy lite. sort of a "been there, done that" kinda thing.

I'm not even sure what I rode- I think it was a Polaris something or other. I lived on a lake when I lived in Minnesota, and the neighbor had a sled he kept parked on the ice behind his place with the keys in it. Told me if I ever wanted to take it, to feel free. I rode it around the lake on several occasions, but honestly that fucker scared me so bad I never really enjoyed it. Sonofabitch was FAST.

Not sure how quack is doing, buut I talked to a couple guys I know in northern Arizona and Colorado, and they just shut down about 3 weeks ago. Completely. And the same has happened here, only it was two weeks ago. In the last 14 days, I've caught 2 foxes. That's it. No coons, possums, skunks, nothing. My neighbor is down 60% over last year, and it's all because of the last two weeks. Everybody here hasn't caught shit since about Dec 5th. It's fucking crazy. And everybody (myself included) has sign all over the place. I'll find tracks within 2 feet of damn near all my traps, just passing by, not even stopping to sniff, and that is what everybody seems to be running into. It's kind of creepy, actually.

Hopefully this front moving through tomorrow will change things, but tell him not to get discouraged. Seems as if everybody all over the country , with isolated pockets catching, is having shitty luck lately.

Too much food available elsewhere?

No idea. This winter isn't noticeably different from the last several, maybe just a touch wetter. It's just crazy how everybody turned off at the exact same time.

Bought some black plastic at home depot. Gonna finally try the fake pond, except on the ice. My buddy seriously doubts it will work, id love to call him to come pick up his limit.

Very nice John. As a kid I had a 440 SuperSport, pretty much the same thing as that. Is it studded?

For those that have never ridden one. That little 440 of mine would do 115 like nothing, and if you never looked down at the speedometer, you probably wouldn't guess you were going that fast.

I believe that it works, its just that since everything has been froze up solid for so long I'm doubting that there's much around to see it. Hoping for a few honkers.

Studs are expensive but well worth it, especially since I'm sure he will be around ice when trapping.

My last sled was a '98 ZR 600 - 110hp with a dry weight of 460lbs. That MoFo was fast.

Was riding at night one time and was rapped out going across a hayfield and all the sudden my headlight was pointing straight towards the sky and it hurt like a bitch when I finally landed...I managed to stay on and looped back to see what is hit, turns out it was just a little knoll in the field that just launched me when I hit it going 90+. There was about 30' of gap between where the tracks were where I launched and where I landed...not a good feeling.

I'm lucky I got rid of it before I killed myself

I only went above 70 on the lakes, until of course I watched a buddy hit a stump in the middle of the lake. Was probably only sticking up about 3 inches and launched him a good 20 feet in the air and at least 100' away from the stump when he landed. Knocked his helmet, gloves and boots completely off. That was enough to say goodbye to the sleds.

I've seen the screw trick done on a track, doesn't work worth a shit and ruins your track. Would be nice though. Maybe if you metal disks to sandwich the track between?

The screws will destroy the track within one year, DON'T do it!

As for sled speeds, the speedometers are way off! While I was in the police academy, we had to take a radar setup home and get hours in with it to get familiar. We took it up to drop mind island and took it out on the lake to do speed runs with it to see how fast we were actually doing. Most of the time, at 85mph+, the speedo would be off by 10-15mph. I looked down atone and its said I was doing 120, radar clocked it at 105. Still fastest I e ever wanted to go, never again, stupid.
Same weekend I threw a stud and punctured my coolant system. We made a jump in front of the cabin so I borrowed a friends sled and busted out this sweet move!
Image
I land with my ribs on the back grab bar, couple cracked, bit tongue, pulled back muscle, so arm, and dizziness for a few hours, even after the doc visit. Destroyed the sled suspension and bent the tunnel. We found a used suspension ANC tweaked the tunnel back into place and that sled is still going strong, that happened almost 10 years ago!

That's what I was gonna say Brew...you get a lot of track slip and the speedo isn't that accurate, but dang they will move.

Now your talkin jehler! I miss sleds so much. Not enough snow to justify buying one. I always had old junk like an arctic cat pantera. That thing was old as dirt and still cruised at 80. Buddy of mine did grass drags with his sled. I don't remember what size motor but I know it was a triple. Sob was scary fast. I would be willing to bet it would keep up with a hyabosa (sp?). And my neighbor had a Polaris that had a turbo charged 3 cylinder car motor from Europe. It's rediculous how fast them fuckers are...

Rode a sled once in my life, looked down and I was doing over 100 mph before I even knew it. Never touched one again.

I've always been a Magellan man but the features of the GPSMAP series are what level I'm on as far as mapping and GIS work.

That handheld you have should be more than you ever need for bow hunting.
