Instead, he told me I was going to get a year long vacation, on the ocean in California, with a very easy schedule, and then a job where I could pretty much pick my duty. And he didn't even lie. When I got to the Presidio of Monterey right out of Basic, I was in shock for a little while. First formation was at 7:30, then school until 3:30, PT in the afternoons, unless you played a sport, then you were exempt. But even if you weren't exempt, PT consisted of running on the beach. No TA 50 issue, 2 hour lunches on Thursdays, freaking awesome. Every morning, I opened the curtains of my single barracks room to a $1,000 view across Monterey Bay. It was sort of downhill after I left there until I got overseas, but he really didn't tell me a single lie.
I have never lied to an applicant and I never will.
recruiter told me I was applying for Surgeon General. All I had to do was sign a couple forms and I'd be a shoe-in.
Then he said some other stuff, but I wasn't paying attention. All I could dream about was being the chief dick doctor of the entire United States.
You do realize the surgeon general isn't a real general don't you?

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.” ― Samuel Adams
