FFP?

First Focal Plane, as in the reticle lies in the first focal plane instead of the second. When a reticle lies in the first focal plane, it lies in front of the actual magnification part of the scope. Essentially when adjusting your magnification level, the reticle is also zoomed in on at the same factor as the target. This means that the distance between all holdover points remains the same regardless of what magnification the scope is set on.

No need for one if all I'm doing is dark timber elk hunting with it. I like Vortex and think they are far superior to any of the Leupold hunting scopes; so do many BR shooters I have talked to. Many of the ones at my range are shit canning Leupold and going to Vortex because it's the same quality of a $1500 Leupold at $750 and is more user friendly.

So far the only thing keeping Leupold in the game is their military history. Until Vortex ends up in the military's hands, they will never dethrone Leupold. I do think they are at the very least as good as Leupold, if not better (especially for the price), but until I see one with a .308 hole punched through the tube, there isn't going to be a comparison.

Don't get me wrong, Leupold are very good scopes but the only thing I think that is keeping them on top in the civilian recreational shooting and hunting community is their name had stood for a long time. Vortex hasn't been here long, but they are proving themselves. And they are make good scopes at affordable prices.

If they keep doing what they're doing and keep the prices good instead of trying to Jew people out of a simple scope.

I hear nothing but good about Vortex and know several people who have switched over to their spotting scopes too, but I think the price will climb with popularity.

Get them while they're cheap. SW- My bad, reading through the instructions and stuff, my scope does not have a FFP but that's not a big deal when you're shooting 500 yards and under at elk size game.

Back to JR. I only paid $275 for this scope. Not even on sale. When I start building a rifle for F/TR, I'm going to slap a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm FFP with a ERB-1 MOA reticle.

You should talk to an experienced BR shooter about the difference B/T a Leupold an a Vortex.

Bench rest shooting means absolutely shit to me. It's like being the best at a video game.

Easy to think that but it is the pinnacle of the shooting sports when it comes to accuracy and performance, especially the mechanics of reloading, bullet seating, rifling, head spacing and repeatable performance. Think of shooting a .3000" five shot group from a sand bag rest with a .243 bullet (6mm) When someone can do that and do it again, I believe that if he says that one scope preforms better than another, I would tend to listen to him, write it down so that I don't forget and put it in the bank. For what I hunt and shoot, do I need that accuracy, I think not but I sure know that if something is wrong, there are starting places from wince to start making corrections.

Like I said- like being the best at a video game.

More like designing the controller to prove you are the best at the game, IMO.

The long range stuff is interesting to me but frankly, I do not have patients enough to ever be a long range guy. Reloading or shooting. I'll stick with pistol shooting

It's not just long range. We also have BR at 100-300 yards that's considered point blank. I'll admit right now, I wouldn't be nearly as successful with group shooting in hunting rifles had I not listened and watched a few benchrest shooters shoot and reload. I've picked up a lot of info that has helped me produce the groups that I produce.

Great so far. Put about 75 rounds through it yesterday with minor issues that cleared up quickly. Gonna be a fun gun for sure.
