I read the first sentence and immediately thought of Tabasco sauce before I read the second sentence

Would country gravy be what we call sausage gravy?

No. At least not here. Country gravy is sausage gravy without the sausage.

With or without sausage I still call it all country gravy. It really should have meat though.

Thanks for the definition of country gravy. Wasn't sure what it was either. Sausage gravy on tits sounds wrong!

You can add chipped beef, for chipped beef gravy, bacon, for bacon gravy, or sausage, for sausage gravy. But all those meats are added to what we call country gravy, which, to the best of my knowledge, is only eaten "plain" on chicken fried steak.

Disclaimer- this applies here. I have no idea about where anyone else lives.
