I actually did this a few weeks ago. Thought I would share on here too.

This pile needs rigging of some kind.

don't buy the FA brand. if they take a stray bb, it will shoot a hole the size of a dime.

don't buy the ghg. the keel will break off or fall off when you throw them out.


G&H is the way to go. I know not all of my decoys are G&H but I wish they were.

Most people give me crap for this but I like Flambeau decoys. They may not look as high tech as some of the newer ones but they are thick and the paint stays on better than any other I've dealt with. The brand you wanna steer clear of is Cabela's real flight. I got some as a gift this past Christmas and I already know they won't make it through a season with the paint.

flamblow keels are 1 step above ghg in my opinion. better than ghg that's for sure but they tip over in rough water. the plastic is good on them. stays flexable. I have had really good luck with G&H paint. Some of my mallard G&H are 10 years old and still look decent. for small back water flamblow keels are probably alright but I hunt the Columbia a lot and the weather turns within minuets from calm to 40 MPH winds. The keels on flamblows are just not good enough.

carry lites are 100% garbage keels. that's what my 'custom' surf scoter are.


ghg keels ride very good. the reason they are garbage is because the break or fall off. I know QH will contest me on this.

This threads reminds me I need to sort, clean and thin out my deeks. I also need to fix the "Deekschack" roof, if it ever stops raining long enough.

Same here. I've always had great luck with Flambeaus.

i have 2 dozen swan, 4-5 dozen pintails and a dozen of the old teal that i like but that's about it. not much luck with the rest of flambeau stuff.


GHG gear sucks, they are and always will be at the bottom of the list right next to redhead/basspro brand

Where do you get the layout boats and how much? I have the plans to build one but trying to compare costs and see if it's a better deal to get a canoe

layout or marsh boat? The things leaning against the wall are marsh boats.

They are aquapod brand. They cost $600.
Layout boat costs $1200-$1500


I buy aquapods at the aquapod factory in ridgefield washington
I built my layout. I just sold the plans, you should have jumped sooner.

Two different buildings. The deekschack just has a few leaks in it's tin roof.

You should get some slotted bags Clyde

slotted bags are nice but, they take up to much room.

I always find it for $13 to $15

was a few months ago, thought about getting some to put on a float blind.

it was on this page but i don't see it or any of the lighter weight that was the same color. they have some 500 denier but it's not as cheap as the other stuff was. will keep an eye out for a good deal on it and let you know.

You can fit 2 g an h bills in each slot

if i was in a boat that had that much open room, i wouldn't worry about it.

i carry 25-30 dozen ducks, 1-2 dozen swans and 1-2 dozen geese in a 17' carolina skiff, it's 65" wide.

~25 dozen and 12 swans. no goose decoys, they would be on the empty side

I like the slotted bags for my longline setups. I also put 2 deeks per slot but, some of my slots are full body bags and I can get 3 per slot. Another advantage of slotted is less damage to paint, even doubled or tripled up per slot.
One main disadvantage of slotted is walk or drive in. They are not easy to manhandle to the blind. In the boat they are great.

for walk in hunts we have six slot bags, jr carries one as do I. Six mallards in one, 18 teal and wood ducks in the other. Works great, we only hunt those filthy bustards until the divers show, we don't really hunt divers without a boat
