I hated these Border Patrol checkpoints when I was down in AZ. They accomplish nothing. We have no border control policy, we have a bunch of feel good nonsense, with citizens getting harrassed. Sometimes these checkpoints will back up traffic for miles, and yet they serve no purpose. Even worse than DUI checkpoints. The govt tells the state of AZ they can't check immigration status when a traffic stop is made, but yet these random bits of nonsense are part of policy. Their only purpose is to do exactly what AZ wanted to do, only on a far more invasive basis. Because the guy doesn't do exactly what they want him to do, then, according to them, he deserves to be treated as a felon, illegal drug-smuggling, illegal alien. And yet the illegals that are here are "entitled" to rights and benefits.
Pisses me off.

I saw that video a while ago. That guy was a doucher, any check point is wrong including DUI ones.

I used to get in many heated debates when my old department would ask me to sign up to work DUI checkpoints. I always argued that they were unconstitutional and were a violation of the persons 4th amendment rights. I have no problem putting those extra officers on the street and letting them use probable cause to make a stop and arrest for DUI, but I would have no part in checkpoints.

They're just so useless. I like the BP guys. Whenever I was out in the desert, 4 wheeling, shooting, or hunting, and came across some "bad" illegals (the guys with backpacks, not the families with little kids), I'd call the BP, and they'd have a guy at or near my location in about 5 minutes, far quicker than city cops get to your house. And then they'd go off on their own tracking them. But these checkpoints are just stupid.

seems as though a lot of people are starting to wake up to just how many of our rights are violated on a daily basis. look up videos of police confronting people for open carry and then getting schooled.

You'd be surprised at how many DUI's they actually get with these checkpoints. I live outside a small city that quits selling alcohol at 12 and really has no bars except for a couple of hole in the wall types. Our neighboring city, where I worked, has 24/7 alcohol sales and many bars that shut down at 2 AM. Most of the checkpoints are set up near the main bridge over the river between these 2 cities to catch the ones leaving the bars. The departments will put a sign up down the street that reads DUI Checkpoint ahead. They then have officers hidden along the side streets after the sign but prior to the actual check point. These officers jobs are to stop ANY vehicle that turns down one of these side streets in attempt to avoid checkpoint. There are also officers manning the checkpoints checking the drivers that come through. I've never worked one of these, but I suspect the majority of the DUI's come from the ones that attempt to avoid the checkpoint.
The last I checked, someone had a Facebook page set up where people in this area could post and let everyone know where they were located.

Publicity stunts.
And the DNR checkpoints they want to do in MN are nothing more than profiling and revenue generators. They only will stop someone towing a watercraft. Aka, profiling.

Exactly. I've been through probably about 100 of these. They go just like explained "how you doing today sir...US citizen?" "Yes" On my way. But it's just stupid. The Justice Department and Supreme Court just said AZ cannot inquire about immigration statues when doing a traffic stop or investigating a crime, because of the potential for civil rights violations. Bt yet they do the exact same thing (as I just described) while having no cause WHATSOEVER to do so. Ridiculous.

Theres a place near here called wise creek on the ocmulgee river, a lot of people swim there and drink, but its also where my friends and i end a kayak trip we like to take pretty frequently. of course we drink on the way down and always have one guy that only gets to drink a few, but there has been dnr checkpoints on the dirt road leaving there. the last time we went they stopped us and said they could smell alcohol, had we been drinking? my friend who was the driver said "i had three beers all day and these other two guys have had abt 12 a peice," then they asked to search the truck, to which he replied "not without a warrant" and then they told us to have a nice day and be safe. I had no idea DNR was allowed to setup a DUI checkpoint on a road. i can understand stopping boaters on the water, but this is the only place i have seen one on land.

DNR are peace officers, who specialize in wildlife enforcement basically, so they have every right that any city police officer/county sherriff/etc have to stop people. However if it was a flat out DUI checkpoint, that is a little odd to say the least.

It was weird to say the least, we had three kayaks and a few fishing poles in the back of the truck. they didnt ask us about any of it. seems like they wouldve said, were you fishing? can we see your permit? did you catch any?... it was none of that. all about alcohol.

In addition to the normal pickups, MD DNR has green Crown Vics which they run radar with. Heck, even the pickups have radar guns, and not a week goes by you don't see someone pulled over next to the highway by a big green DNR Chevy. Nothing like driving by a gae warden, half hidden in the woods running radar. Ludicrous. I'll try to take a pic next time- they're fairly common here.

I took the girls down to Ocean City a few weeks back, let them go to the beach and the boardwalk while I fished the inlet off the jetty. I had just sat down on a rock, and was starting to rig up a leader, when the game warden walked up to me (they're down there constantly, getting out of state tourists, and this is only the second year you've needed any sort of license to fish the ocean, so they clean up financially) and asked "have I checked your license yet?", to which I snapped back "Am I fishing yet?" I didn't even really mean to say it, but it just sort of popped out. (I have a very weak filter, anyway) He sort of looked at me in confusion for a second, and started to walk off, saying "well, I'll be back then". I called him back, and said I was just kidding and showed him the license. No hard feelings either way, but apparently I come off as a little more "high-strung" than I actually am.

I was in the bait and tackle a few weeks ago and on older guy came in. After he got his stuff he starts telling us this story about how he got a ticket for not having his federal fishing number on his person. He had taken some out of town friends fishing and dropped them off at his dock. Then went to the ramp to pull the boat out of the water. The VMRC was at the dock and checked his boat. He had one rod left on the boat that had a plastic lure on it. He asked for his license and he said he didnt have to have one he is over 65. Then he asked for his federal number and he said it was in his truck. The VMRC officer walked away and after the man got his boat up he walked over with a ticket. Even though he had the number and had registered. He hadnt even seen the man fishing, but because he had a rod with a lure on it he wrote the ticket. What BS. Unfortunately the GW is related to my wife. Last week I saw him coming and crossed a sandbar. He didnt, and several hours later when the tide got up he stopepd by the house. Asked why I took off and lead him over that bar. I said one, you are the crab cop, you should know the water and your boat, and two....I brought up the above story and let him know how I felt about it. I dont think I'll be getting a card at Christmas.

I once witnessed an old man at his arraignment. When I say old I mean this dude looked 90. Relied heavily on his cane. Probably shoulda had a walker. He was like 90% deaf. The judge had to yell in order for the old timer to hear him. Anyhow he had taken his great grandson out rock fishing in his little 12' aluminum boat. When he had come back in to dock, F&G was waiting for him. Cited him for being one fish over the limit. $550 dollar fine.
Really?! where's the compassion? I woulda been more concerned over the old timer's safety in that little boat than I would have been over the one stupid fish he obviously miscounted.
Anyhow, the judge was so upset by the warden's lack of good judgement, that he dismissed the case right there at the arraignment without even speaking to the warden. The judge yells "GRANDPA YOU CAN HAVE YOUR MONEY BACK!" I miss that judge. Retired last year

Heres another woeful run in with law enforcement, my employee who was arrested last night is on an ICE hold. They neglected to mention that until after i handed over $1300 for his bail and waited an hour. Basically theyre gona keep him in jail for nine months and then deport him. now im down to six workers in the heat of the summer. this blows!!!
