Wanted to offer...

Postby Baysider » Wed Jul 18, 2012 9:50 am

A conversation in the big game forum made me think about offering this here. I offer a couple hunts a year to kids and vets each year, and post this same info on a couple local forums. VA has several days set aside just for youth hunts. One in Oct and one in Feb for waterfowl, and Im sure they have one for deer but Ive never looked it up. Most of the kids I take want to be on the water or in a blind. I also have several double man stands for any fathers that would like to take their kids on a deer hunt. For deer, I can almost promise at least several doe. Ducks, well you know how that goes. I can also set up a field goose hunt on my farm as another option.
I took a father and son last year for the Oct waterfowl day. The boy killed his first pair of ducks with a single shot .410. I was pretty impressed on how fast he could reload that thing. He put a hurtin on those wood ducks for sure. The Feb. date I took two brother and their dad on a walk in duck hunt. Of course it was 60 deg, sunny, and calm. Not much flew but we had a great time.

If you have or know of any youngins needing a spot in a blind let me know. I know most of you are a good ways away, but wanted to offer.

Thats great! A good way to help out the kids and vets. Nothing better than taking a kid hunting with you!

It's more rewarding to see their smiles than my own.

I ran into a couple wearing "Wounded Wear" clothing a couple weeks ago in a seafood place here on the shore. (I couldnt take the hospital food any longer while the wife was in there with our daughter.) They had the logo on their truck as well. I looked them up and liked what I saw. I contacted them and offered and fishing trip or deer hunt this year for some of the wounded vets. The owner is a wounded vet himself. I didnt ask what happened but I can say the man went through some tough stuff judging by the scars. I regret not joining the military and always try to give back to the ones that did. They said they would be up for it. I hope they take me up on the offer. :fishing:
