More than ready!

They just released the early goose season here in MI. Same as last year (Sept 1-10) and on Aug 9th they will release the normal duck season dates. I'm so ready for this year, I find myself in the garage fooling around with all my gear even though it's more than ready. I've been scouting every weekend I can and now that the boat is done I don't think I have anything else to do other then keep setting aside money for gas this season and wait.

I would like some more teal and pintail decoys though...

But it's only 4 paychecks till our duck season should open. That is nowhere near enough time. Anyone got a lead on at least 5 good numbers. Don't need all 6.

There are still ducks where you're at? How are you scouting?

It is still way to long until duck season. At least I have deer season coming up, opens here on September 15 I believe. Going to the mountains this weekend, hopefully I will see some bucks.

You don't have any resident ducks? Do all your resident ducks leave the day duck season opens? The way I see it even if the resident ducks leave early its a pretty good shot that the ones that will migrate through will use the same areas I'm seeing ducks in now.

Besides scouting this early amounts to riding around in the boat with a few friends and a few cold ones and that's just plain old fun. I wouldn't expect you to know anything about fun though.

Our resident birds seem to show the early migrators where to go. So you can bet while Im in the marsh fishing Im watching for those birds too.

No resident ducks around here. resident geese yes but no ducks. The ones that are residents are all in the city parks.

I have lots of fun so I don't know where you got the idea I don't have fun.

We don't get anything until late August first of September.

The majority of the Atlantic population of black ducks nest on our barrier islands. This used to be all we saw but now I see some mallards and gadwall nest here. We certainly have more res. geese than ducks though. Ive already seen blue wings pass through. The days are getting shorter by 3 minutes each day. This will kick some of the birds into gear. Spoonies and Pintail will be next that should be seen.
