Man I feel for you TK it's only 84 here and with the wind gusting like it is feels like mid 70's.

You guys have been getting hammered, TK.

The midwest in general has been getting it bad. It hasn't "rain" rained here since probably May. Yeah we've had a couple little showers roll through, but they are spotty and dump maybe a 1/16th of an inch. Last one of those was 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunetly, we are ALL going to feel this drought at the grocery store...the corn crop, hay crop, and meat production has been an EPIC FAIL.

Damn its hot here...only gonna get worse. Think about this: our first day here over 90 degrees was in March....

What's a typical summer like there?

It gets hot, but not this hot until August. And it'll rain usually once a week or so.

This...Usually it isn't near this hot till the last 2 weeks of August and then it starts breaking pretty quick.

The record highs this time of year are from 110-115*, so it can always suck. It normally does not last this long though, we have had no breaks in temp and no rain. Average high is around 90, low around 70. Only good thing about the drought is the humidity has been low. We will have a span of over 110* within the next 6 months, then I will be pissed cause everything is froze out. Red, your weather sounds awesome.

I am thinking that the start of dove season will see me and my brother leaving the dogs at home and being our own retrievers.

I've had the a/c cranking here since April. Me and the dogs like it cold in the house, currently the a/c is set at 62...no wonder my electric bill was close to $300 this last month.

I just bought a freestanding ac for my living room last night. After running for about 2 hours it went from 80 to 70 in there. Greatest investment ever. It's also a heat and a dehumidifier.

Ya ya after about a month of overcast weather you'll bitch about not ever seeing the sun like everyone else does. I love it weather here, clouds an all

So I'm guessing when y'all get out to work the dogs this time of year, your sessions are short huh?

My buddy and I worked our dawgs for an hour the other day in the cool temps. I don't usually work em that long, but they were doin well and having fun so we kept at it.

My sessions with the dogs are kept at an hour or less this time of year and I like to be close to water.

Definitely have to keep sessions short, I have only seen Taz act tired once or twice, but I know he has to be feeling hot, like a lot of hunting breeds, they will not stop until it is too late. If it is below 90 Taz will go all out for hours on his own, Ijust make sure there is water near by. Taz's first day of dove hunting last year, he retrieved over 30 birds and the temp reached 107*, chased prairie chicken in 90*+ heat, and a few months later was breaking ice while chasing geese. Just like people they get used to the environment they live in. My old lab didn't stand a chance in the heat, my britt got the work in warm weather.

wow really. Ok I guess I'm underestimating a dog who's acclimated to that heat. Charlie's so used to our moderate temps he's useless in the heat

Not only are they kept to an hour, it is early morning or late evening.

My oldest does better, the younger one not so much. I let them out in the yard for about 30 minutes to an hour at a time.

In this weather, I can throw bumpers for Bella for about 15 minutes. Then she needs to come in, and she sprawls out on the floor.
