When we get a forecast for a good weekend we'll make the call, probably a 3 day'er

Working on a cabin that sleeps 5 with beds there, room for a few cots.

I have driven out on ice before and it don't bother me either. Fun to see the new guys look around when you hear snap, crackle, pop

Do it. Sure there are lots of guys on base that do it. At a minimum, just need an auger and small rods/reels. Bait can be small shrimp, jigs, corn, etc.

Growing, no. Stuck in drilled ice holes to mark the trail,yes.
But there's a chance a minivan might run you off the trail!

I hated driving on the ice. Actually, I hated even being in the ice shack, but the drive was always the worst. I had the windows down and one hand on the door handle at all times. The first time I was in the shack and the lake groaned, and then coughed up a little mini tsunami of water through the hole, I almost shit myself. I think that's half the reason people drink so much while ice fishing- to help wash aware the fear of an impending icy death.
