Public vs Private schooling

The time has come for our son to be enrolled into kindergarten. We have debated on whether to send him to a public school or a private school. What turns us off about public schools is that they seem to be extremely over crowded. My supervisors son has 25-30 kids to 1 teacher in his classes. Are the class sizes any different in a private school? We want our son to get a more 1 on 1 education without having to home school him. I know each type has it's pluses and minuses, I just want to hear from those of you with kids who have experience with this.

I went to private school all the way up til highschool. The private school kids were weird, the public school kids were getting pregnant and doin drugs in middle school. Once you get to highschool everybody is bad. The friends I have who stayed in private school have been more successful in life than my public school friends now that were approaching 30.

I went to both public and private school. From my experience, most private school kids are better educated, but not as socially skilled.

More like a public school failure.

I went to a private Lutheran school from preschool to 8th grade. I graduated 8th grade with 16 kids in my class everybody know everyone which is good and bad. Went to a public highschool that had about 900 kids. Didn't take a whole lot of adjustment for me, but it was definitely different. I also had a way better education going into highschool than the public kids did. My first year and a little bit of the second were basically review.
The downside is you go into highschool with basically no friends and everyone coming from the district already has their groups of friends.
Your best bet would be to go visit the private schools around you and talk to some of the teachers, check out class sizes, cost, whatever matters to you. If you find one you like then you probably will have your mind made up.

If I can afford it my kid(s) will go to private school. Likely the same one I went to.

All depends on school district. The one I was in, here, was 95% white.

That's what I figured, around here they are getting dangerously close to 50/50.

Across the bridge, in Shreveport, most are 70% or more black and literally all of them are considered schools in decline due to graduation rate.

I'm pretty sure both of our public highschools here have lost their accreditation, and the public school teachers are all unionized liberal dems, that will indoctrinate your children with their crazy ideas.

I would do just about anything to get my kids back into private school, but the transportation issue is just too difficult to work out. For me, it wasn't necessarily the class size, it was the curriculum and methods of teaching. There were consequences, kids were NOT passed if they didn't earn it, and any bad behavior was punished, not excused away. History was taught as history, not a feel-good social rewriting of events to appease the minority groups. Math and reading were taught by hammering the fundamentals to give a good base, rather than jumping all willy nilly in some misguided notion of "well roundedness".
I just despise the public school system, and what it has become. Even the "superstar" schools and school districts pale in comparison to the education provided by private schools. The fact that the public school unions continue to fight tooth and nail against any sort of voucher system tells me all I need to know- that private is better, which is why they must use the power of the state to keep people "trapped" in their public system.

I agree with AT, fuck public schooling. i remember begging my parents to get me out of public schooling, but it never happened. If i have kids someday then i will either home school or private school, public won't even be an option. After hearing all the shit my girlfriend tells me about her job, i'm even more convinced that the public system is a fucking nightmare.
