My thought after watching the video is - yes. I would have shot it at that point.

There are a few questions about the video and the guys decisions before it got to that point but once it started to come at me, again, I would have put it down.

I agree. Actually I think he was a little slow on the draw. I have never seen a moose but heard some wild stories from family in Alaska and I woulda pulled the first time he got those hooves Over the windshield.

At this time of year, they are on the edge of starving and are very temperamental. Best to give them a wide berth.

That's the part I have questions about in the video, that are not answerable (unless you are AB). Could he have turned around or gone down another path when he saw the moose? Instead of trying to scare it off.

Yep. I would have stayed where he was at the beginning of the video and not advanced.

That's kinda what I was thinking. Trying to read the moose's body language, it seemed he was reluctant to leave the broken trail to slog through the deep snow outside of it. Snowmobiler kind of provoked the animal it seems.

I used to live in the hills north of Fairbanks, Alaska and have had moose encounters.
The man in the video pursued that moose. All he had to do was walk off the trail at a right angle and go smoke a bowl (legal in Alaska) then chill out a while and the moose would have went on it's own merry little way. He wanted to shoot it and did.
I'm sure I could have avoided shooting it. There was a trail down the hill I lived on that cut between everyones 5-acre yards. Yes, I've been eye to eye with a moose before and damn they're big. I was in a canoe and just paddled away. The moose stood there munching on river grass.

He had skis on I think or was that the skis on his sled?
The video shows a dumbass guy with a pistol imo.

Thanks AB. This is why we need you around. You catch all the little details that the rest of us just don't see. I knew you would have the answer.

I do think it is tough to call if the guy had other options or not, or made the right decisions leading up to the attack. But at the point that he shot the moose, I agree with his actions.

I forgot to mention he did not fire a warning shot. I would have at least wasted one round. Jeez.
Wellll, I want to think I would have. At the point where it put it's hooves on me...yeah I would blasted it.

Not so sure I would have shared the video. ERASE ERASE delete delete.

You've obviously never operated a snowmobile in deep snow though. He goes off that trail and he would have been buried

It's possible. I've never operated a snow machine or whatever you want to call it but I did X-country ski to school my senior year when I went to school in Fairbanks. Rode the bus home. I've had to dodge a moose or two.

He did not have an option to turn it around. Trail was WAY too small. If you saw how deep that moose buried itself after it jumped off the sled, ^^^ is right that you wouldn't have gotten anywhere going off trail. Not fast at least. And what's he going to do, go along side the moose on a 6 ft wide path? Also, the first shot didn't even stop that moose, warning shot wouldn't have done jack.

He could have not crept forward on it, but I'm sure he thought he was scaring it away so wanted to make it run instead of walk. I don't think he did anything wrong per say, but there may have been better options.

Unless there's a whole lot more to it than deep snow off the trail, like he was on his way to a life threatening fire, I think the guy's dumber than the moose, an asshole or both.

Maybe he was trying to avoid a life threatening situation, like being knocked out by a moose very far from help.

What if it was the same article only he caught a hoof and is in a coma right now? Everyone would call him an idiot.

For trying to pressure the moose, I'd say the poor, dumb bastard got what he asked for.
