Well nuts...

... I've already missed the first third o' squirrel season! Seems the little rats have been declared all but a nuisance here. Season opened 5/15/'12 and closes 2/28/'13 with a daily limit of 12. Wasn't long ago we had two different zones with a limit of 8. If we'd had a season like this when I was a kid, would probably have been a professional squirrel hunter by the age o' 12.

Is squirrel season this liberal everywhere now?

Did that once while bowhuntin' for deer. Stupid squirrel posted up in a tree right beside me and wouldn't stop barkin'. Finally let him have one and pinned him to the tree, which proceeded to really pizz 'im off. Launched every arrow I had as well as every branch I could break loose. Ruined a perfectly quiet mornin'.

Way too many ticks, chiggers, and skeeters around to hit the woods for me for a tree rat.

Sept 1- end of February here, but only 6 a day for no good reason. We usually go out squirrel hunting after a morning of rabbit hunting in February, although there have been many times when I thought seriously about sacrificing the deer hunt I was on to shoot the umpteen bajillion squirrels around my pile of corn for baiting the deers.

There's been many a deer hunts where I wished I had my pellet gun with me. It gets aweful frustrating after the 30th time you hear rustling leaves behind you that "has to be a deer this time" only to be yet ANOTHER friggin squirrel tromping through the woods. I did finally seek my revenge one day while bow hunting. I only had my expanding broadheads though, and hadn't seen a thing all day. Squirrel decided to walk along a tree 10 yards away. It basically gutted the thing out the other side. Little bastard still ran 20 feet to the base of a tree and just fell over.

Only thing worse than a herd o' squirrels while tryin' to nap durin' a deer hunt is a hoppin' armadillo. Always wondered what a really fast bullet would do to one o' them.

Its pretty cool. A .357 mag is my weapon of choice against them though. They pop like water balloons.
